Guest guest
That's horrible. Hugs, Support your friendly local autistics...........I'm one of them. door locks There was a horrible fire down here a couple of days ago and afamily perished in a home fire because they had installed bolts on thetop of the doors to keep their son from getting outside to prevent himgetting hurt or abducted. The dead child was mentally impaired andhad some other conditions the newspaper didn't mention specifically. Please be sure if you are installing these locks on the doors thatyou are able to get out through a window or some other means. Theyhad put bars on the windows and could not escape through them. Itgets dark and smokey and smoke does rise so please be careful if usingthis method to keep your children safe. Guest guest
. That is just terrible. We have regular fire drills so Brady knows what to do in case of a fire or earthquake. We don't have bars on the windows and so far haven't had to put bolts on the doors. I am so sorry for the family who was just trying to protect their son.-son Brady 12 -bp,asp,add,tourettes7 th grd middle school, IEP one on one aidemainstream. Guest guest
We had a problem with our son leaving his room in the middle of the night. Once he got out of bed and went outside, he did not wander off but he left the back door wide open and there was the time that he started to cook something and set of the smoke alarms. We got a door chime for his bedroom door, like the ones that are on the doors at business to alert when someone comes in. We got it at Lowes - it was about 50 bucks but we were able to sleep knowing that if he opened his bedroom door, the chime would go off and wake us up. door locks There was a horrible fire down here a couple of days ago and afamily perished in a home fire because they had installed bolts on thetop of the doors to keep their son from getting outside to prevent himgetting hurt or abducted. Guest guest
We had a problem with our son leaving his room in the middle of the night. We were worried that he might just wonder off. He also would cook which set off the alarm once. We did not want to lock him in his room because of the hazard. We got a door chime - like the ones on the front door of a business. It was about 50 bucks, but every time he opens his door the chime goes off and would wake us up. There are the ones you put on the door and there are ones that are motion sensitive. We got ours at Lowes. > > There was a horrible fire down here a couple of days ago and a > family perished in a home fire because they had installed bolts on the > top of the doors to keep their son from getting outside to prevent him > getting hurt or abducted. Guest guest
We have no choice -- our doors must be locked, and they must not be able to be opened by our son. He takes off, and we live 1/2 a block from a highway. Our windows aren't barred, but I don't know that they can be opened. Everyone in our family knows how to unlock the doors, except our son. Which, it will only take a little focus, and he will figure out the tricks and we'll be scrambling for another way to keep him safe. What do you do? Guest guest
I don't know if they have Dollarama stores in the US but they do here in Canada and they sell a little door alarm for a dollar. It's just a magnetic type of thing and you put one piece on the door and one piece on the frame, when they are together, they make no noise but when separated, they make a terribly loud noise. (they do have an on and off switch) I think these would be perfect to put on a kid's door or even the doors of the home, to let you know if your child would try to escape. Guest guest
Great idea on the door chime! I never would have thought of that. It's a creative way to give your child the freedom he needs and keep him safe. I will file that one away for the future. Guest guest
Hi There, there is good door lock that is similar to the hotel latches that are higher up on the door. We got ours at home depot. It was around $20 but well worth it. It looks like a gold bar, not noticeable. Usually if you put the apartment back to the condition it was in when you moved in you won't get charged on your security deposit (speaking as a multi family property manager) although it is good to run it by the office staff. If they say no you can always use the disability clause. Truly, by law you are able to make reasonable accommodations to the apartment in this case. Again, at your own expense and as long as it is put back when you leave. We use one on the bathroom and one on the door to our garage. They figured out how to get out the usual door locks and at times we need to keep them in the house! The bathroom I usually only use when there are visitors over. No doubt when someone is standing there, the kids will just barge right in and leave the door open! Good luck!Patty and I have Sheridon 8 RTS and Blaise 6 Spitfire
Guest guest
We have a hook and eye high up on the outside of our office door to keep our son out. We also put them on the closets with the laundry supplies and the furnace. Very easy and inexpensive.
