Guest guest
The difference is one is based on disability and current income, children under 18 and other people who have never worked can get that. The other is based on your contributions so is only available to adults who have previously worked and therefore pd ss tax. The lawyer probably was not interested in your case not based on whether he would receive it but based on the amount he would receive and/or I he would receive a retro check. Many of those lawyers work for free up front but get paid when you get paid so if he won't be getting enough of a lump sum retro check the case isn't wortth it to the lawyer. Don't let that discourage you. My sister has applied 4 times (medical though not psych) and received it without appeal 3 of those 4 times, the other she did get it on appeal. she applied in another state as a severe asthmatic at only like 20, she also applied for my then, maybe 4 year old nephew with severe asthma. He was approved but she had to appeal. She then applied for him and her in this state. She also just applied for my now 4 year old nephew who has asthma, severe peanut allergy, and some other respiraory thing I can't pronounce and he was approved in less than 3 month with no need to appeal. I know stories sound discouraging but that isn't always the case (my point in sharing the successes) On 4/26/10, carolynsuelowerychattanooga <sue@...> wrote: > Pam, that is one of their and our considerations, but I am trying to > understand the difference between the SSI and SSDI?
