Does anyone know what the rules are about putting one of our AS kids in hold? I know that they have the right to do it when he's a threat to himself or others, but do they have to notify us about it? So, if your child is put in hold at school do you, as a parent, have a right to know that it was done? Thanks! Beth
Guest guest
Does he have an IEP? If not he has a good case for one if he has these type of behavior issues. If you suspect that there are issues at school ask for a behavior observation by a certified autism behaviorist. You want to know the triggers and have some interventions documented in his IEP to prevent outbursts. Is your son on medications? Does he hit at home? He should have 1:1 counseling at school, social skill training on boundary issues and controlling outbursts. If he is teased he needs a co-teacher class room where someone can keep an eye on him. How old is your son? Many young boys with ADHD hit and swing around in an unintentional way of releasing energy and just being rough. Is this the sort of behavior? Guest guest
That is how it is here. They have to give you a document and you have to read it and sign that you understand it. We had a situation over the summer, however, in which I'm beginning to feel was restrained unnecessarily. Not that he wasn't about to hurt someone but that prevention was not tried at all and then when was in freak out mode they'd restrain him. He was SUCH a mess until camp (extended school year provided by school)was done for the summer. I'm trying to decide what action to take, though.
