Guest guest
Hi, My name is Bek, i was just diagnosed with all the above. I also have Fibromyalgia because it was let go for many years cause dr.s wouldn't listen to me. I have no idea what to do about diet. My new dr who is a ND, he wasn't any help in the diet dept. So i am stuck just eating a very few foods. Meat, eggs, and veggies. That is about it. I stay very hungry. I am below weight and can't afford to lose anymore. I feel very sick all the time, which makes it hard to prepare foods. I am doint the best i can though, making foods from scratch. I never liked sugar or breads and have always eaten pretty healthy. I would say i got this from antibiotics, steroid shots for pain, birth control pills many yrs ago and whatever else. I need help with foods if anyone has time to write. Thanks so much Bek
Guest guest
Hi Bek,I have been working on healing my gut after also suffering with yeast allergies, leaky gut and candida. Do you know the GAPS diet? See gapsdiet.comThis diet has been very helpful for me. Do to your yeast allergies you will need to avoid anything fermented (wine, beer, vinegar, yogurt, kefir, kombucha). Note that many condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayonnaise) contain vinegar so you will need to avoid those too. Coffee, tea and dried fruit (it's covered with yeast) should be avoided. Also avoid juices you buy at the store- they are made with the fruit that is overripe or is otherwise moldy. Make fresh juice at home if you like juice. Can you eat nuts? I recommend eating crispy nuts that you make yourself at home. I love crispy pecans; they are buttery and delicious! Buy organic raw pecans or almonds. For 4 cup of nuts, add 1 tablespoon celtic sea salt, cover with water and let soak for 24 hours. Dry on a cookie sheet in your oven or food dehydrator at 150 degrees (no higher than this or the fats in the nuts get broken down and will go rancid). It takes 24-48 hours for the nuts to dry. They are an excellent source of fat and nutrients. Soaking raw nuts is important because they contain enzyme inhibitors that will disrupt digestion. To heal your gut you need lots of healthy fats, especially from raw butter or coconut oil. The butter should come from Jersey or Guernsey cows that are only grass-fed (no grains! especially not corn!). You can go to realmilk.com to find a dairy in your area that is a good source of raw dairy. The coconut oil should be also be organic and preferably cold pressed (not chemically processed). Coconut oil is also a natural source of caprylic acid which kills yeast. You can eat it and even rub it on your skin as a lotion! You must avoid sugar to get rid of the yeast in your system. Best of luck.On Oct 2, 2010, at 9:06 AM, pooderdog wrote: Hi, My name is Bek, i was just diagnosed with all the above. Guest guest
Thanks for responding, I have no idea how i can do this Gaps diet. I am really not up to it. I feel so exhausted and sick most the time. This looks like it requires so much work. I don't have any digestive problems which is strange. No diahhrea, or stomach aches, nothing. Never have. My main problems are a sick flu like feeling, exhaustion, pain in muscles and joints, depression, anxiety. I have all of these daily. I don't know how to do like it says, if you have a reaction after eating a food? I don't have a reaction after eating any food. Like diahhrea or stomach pain. I was told i could eat unlevened bread, have green tea, apples, just no sugar, other fruits, vinegar type stuff. So i don't know why he told me that. Dr. said i could have oatmeal, rice, all kinds of foods. Foods i don't think i should eat. I haven't been eating them either, just exixting on meat, veggies. That's all. Lots of pure water, and some green tea. AND i am starving. WOuld you think i would have to start from scratch on the intro diet like they say in the article for Gaps?? Since i don't have all the stomach issues? Or could i start with meats, veggies, and fats like she says? I am in serious hurt here. I in no way can do the work she is talking about like making your own bone broth. And cooking fermented stuff, which i have no idea is. I have looked and talked to everyone i know, online, offline, and can't find any other help. I am just about ready to throw the towel in, I just am so tired. I have no one to help. Thanks hon. Guest guest
You're tired because the candida in your body and the imbalance in your gut is sapping all of your energy.Do not eat any grains; don't believe your doctor when he/she says you can. Grains will feed the candida in your body and make the problem worse.Do you drink raw milk? It's a great source of fat and natural enzymes and will help with your hunger. Go to realmilk.com and find a diary in your area. The best dairy will have Jersey or Guernsey cows that they only feed grass or hay.Everyone's food reactions are different. I get an itchy nose. My son gets a stuffy nose or may have gas. I think many people have food sensitivities and especially those with leaky gut.You don't have to do the intro diet right now. Keep going with the meats and veggies. Add the fats (coconut oil) and the nuts I mentioned before. I think raw milk could help you a lot.Avoid all fermented foods, including the ones in the GAPS protocol. Take the BioKult probiotic recommended on the GAPS website. Always take it with food.In time you should think about making the bone broths. The broths are nourishing and healing.Get the raw milk. Guest guest
Hi , I know, I don't have your exhaustion, and *I* find it overwhelming. But you want some variety of foods and want to get healthy. So pick one thing. And add that one thing to you usual routing for a week or two. When you are comfortable with it, pick one more thing. And so on. Here are a few ideas: The beef broth is a long process - so don't do it. Do the chicken broth. Start by roasting a chicken. Eat the roasted chicken and make gravy from the drippings, then broth with the bones. Takes 2 to 3 hours cooking and not that much preparation. It does work best if you can throw in a couple of feet. Say, 2 per chicken? You can buy them at Asian markets. The GAPS website says how to make the broth. To add coconut oil to your diet, mix it with peanut butter and spread it on toast with a bit of honey. Buy raw milk butter and cheese if you can find it. Ignore the rest of the dairy stuff for now. Buy the book Nourishing Traditions - it's full of recipes that fit the GAPS diet if you skip use honey or maple syrup instead of rapadura/sucanat. Pick one that sounds appealing and make it. Start testing the foods you eat most often. Just because your reactions aren't typical doesn't mean you aren't having any. Mush up the food into a thin paste (mush, then add water) and just before you go to bed, put some of the paste on the inside of your wrist. Check in the morning for any redness or swelling. Buy the probiotics she recommends (BioKult) if you can afford it and take it according to her protocol (it's also on her website.) Try the nuts someone else posted about. Buy and drink commercial Kombucha if you can find it. Buy the book " The How of Happiness " or get it from the library and start working on your depression by picking one little thing to do that takes about 15 minutes once a week. Guest guest
Thanks, On my tests for food sensitivities the dr. said i am allergic to dairy. So how can i drink raw milk? I am on a good probiotic now. And still eating meats and veggies, and bought coc. oil. I cook it all in the oil. As soon as i eat i am starving again, and am losing precious weight i can't afford to lose. I can tell that alone has made me much weaker. I am off oatmeal and brown rice now. Still not feeling well at all. Still exhausted. Don't know how long it will take to feel better if it was the grains. But if it isn't that, then I don't know what i will do to figure this out. Guest guest
If you have leaky gut, you should AVOID all YEAST and fungus......vinegar, yeast in bread (for more than the yeast), yogurt of any kind until some healing has taken place, kombucha (the yeast here are uncontrolled as to how much and what kind), etc. Leaky gut is caused by yeast mutating into another form and burrowing into the intestinal lining an causing damage resulting in food sensitivities...not the least of which is YEAST.....that's why peanuts and peanut butter are out because peanuts harbor a fungus. While I'm on the subject of yogurt....read what live cultures and how many are actually in your container os yogurt and you will probably opt for high quality probiotics with inulin as a prebiotic. They are adding inulin to many foods now....and here's what I wonder....is this some manufactured inulin instead of the basic pure food fiber I buy?....You know...to make $$$Dairy is another food to be cautious of depending how much damage has been done to the villi and what crypts have developed in the intestines.Joan Hi , I know, I don't have your exhaustion, and *I* find it overwhelming. Guest guest
Avoid dairy and honey if you tested allergic to them. Honey is full of wild yeasts which is probably why you tested allergic to it. You will likely outgrow the sensitivity to dairy once you heal your gut.Last night's dinner sounds very good except there is no fat in that dinner! That's one reason you're waking up hungry. Fat satiates hunger. I would recommend eating at least half of an avocado with that dinner. Eat half of an avocado for every meal if you can.I would eat almond butter if you can't eat peanut butter. I eat coconut butter right off a spoon. You could mix it with the almond butter and spread it on celery and carrot sticks. Sometimes I just eat the mixture with a spoon out of a cup. This is a very fatty healthy snack and should help with your hunger. You can also make muffins and breads out of almond flour and coconut oil and eggs. It's good and quite healthy. Here's the recipe:2 1/2 cups ground almonds (you can buy Bob's Red Mill almond flour/meal if you like)1/4 cup softened coconut oil3 eggsMix above ingredients well. Grease your bread pan or muffin tin well with the coconut oil. Bake at 300 degrees for about and hour (for the bread pan) or about 20 minutes for the muffins. As the yeast in your body dies off you will continue to feel tired. Drink lots of water. Your diet sounds pretty good you just need to add a lot more fat. Try avocado with your meats at meals and eat the nuts and coconut oil as snacks. On Oct 3, 2010, at 10:43 AM, Hill wrote: HI, Thanks for emailing. Guest guest
You might have a body similar to mine--I lose weight easily too. I tried the GAPS and traditional candida diets (meats and veggies, no grains) and I got worse on both. I do A LOT better on the Body Ecology Diet (www.bodyecology.com), which has no dairy, and only gluten free grains, and they do not trigger candida reactions in my body. Also, there is a really good vitamin supplement called IntraMax that contains a spectrum of vitamins and trace minerals and antioxidants that could help raise your energy levels so you can take better care of yourself. It's expensive, unfortunately, about $70.00 for a month long bottle. Cheapest place I have found to get it is at www.somahealth.net Lastly, do you know of any good homeopaths in your area? The homeopathic remedies do not require good digestion to work, but they can assist in healing in your digestive and chronic fatigue issues. If you don't know of one, let me know which city and state you live in and I'll try to find a referral for you. HTH, Robyn > > > > > Hi, > > My name is Bek, i was just diagnosed with all the above.
