Guest guest
Yes ...all the time. If my son shuts down....I usually email the teachers and let them know. I have been told at time not to stress the household over it and let the teachers handle it. Most likely it is too overwhelming ...something she feels she is not good at or just can't do. As Roxanna said maybe she doesn't have the vocab, maybe she needs a graphic organizer or a form to follow. In 5th grade, my son's reading teacher used a Ice Cream Sundae. The dish or bowl was the opening sentence. The 2 scoops of ice cream and the banana were 3 sentences describing the topic (sneaker) and the whip cream was the conclusion. I could not beleive what beautiful essays my son wrote using this layout. She hates descriptive writing with a passion unless it's something she likes. Her teacher assigned her to describe her shoe and she wouldn't do it. shut down..growling..the whole bit?
