Here's another question...

My son absolutely HATES storms. If he hears the emergency broadcast sound on the radio or TV he gets all excited. Doesn't help that we happen to live in an area that gets some sever thunderstorms and tornadoes. When the radio or tv starts listing off the counties he will ask how close they are in relation to ours. And if our county is one mentioned he freaks out.

When we get warnings here or God forgid the sirens go off he will take the laptop and pull up the weather radar so he can see exactly what grid coordinates the storm is currently in and which way it's heading. He will start saying that he doesn't want to die and almost have an anxiety attack. The worse the storm the worse he gets. He will want a minute by minute update. That is the only thing that really keeps him halfway calm. When it's really bad we have him sit in the laundry room which is in the middle of the house and he feels safer. If it is at night we can forget even trying to get him to go to bed. At 14 he will still lay next to our bed if we're having a bad thunderstorm.

So my questions is, does anyone else experience this with their Aspie and if so how do you deal with it?ne

OMG, this is hysterical!! I could totally see this being my son in the next 6 years! My son is the biggest hypochondriac. I swear he complains more about aches & pains than my 80 year old grandmother! His back hurts, his neck hurts, etc. When he falls playing Upward basketball, it can be reallt embarrassing! The smallest fall will leave him limping & unable to play! Last week he was sick with the flu and he was having such bad "muscle weekness that he couldn't even walk". I guess I can give up on this getting better, huh, lol? I just worry about him growing up and being a whimpy boy...I was thinking this behavior would be accepted slightly more if he were a gorl, but even then, it is way too much!>> Sue, this is a new one on me! But I could totally see my son doing this. He is a hypochondriac, he exaggerates every little ache and pain. This week his back hurt ( after a day with a lot of physical activity) and he was asking me where his kidney was. He was sure something was wrong with his kidney. I have not had to do the below-the-belt check though, lol. I think you handled it well.> > Suzanne (in Mi)> Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry®> > ( ) Paranoias> > Ok, I got one for the group....> > I get a phone call at work today from my son telling me he thinks he has herpes.> > Son: Mom, I have herpes> Me: What!!> Son: Yeah, I looked it up on the internet.> Me: What? What makes you think this? > Son: I have some red bumps on my penis. When you get home can you look at it?> Me: What? Who told you about this? (I was refering to the herpes)> Son: Well will you

look at it?> Me: We'll talk about it when I get home.> > When I get home he asks me again if I would look at it. Ok, my son is 14 and I'm sorry but I just didn't feel comfortable doing this. So anyway...> > Me: So how do you know about herpes?> Son: You know Mom, they talk about it at school> Me: Ok since you looked it up on the internet, how do you get herpes?> Son: I don't know.> Me: I thought you looked it up.> Son: Yeah, but just to see what it looked like.> Me: Well I'll tell you how you get it. You get it by having sex. > Son: Oh. Well what is it then. Can you look at it?> > Now, I'm sure many of you can relate to the fact that our kids have maturity deficits from their peers. So my son is 14, but is really like a 11 year old in his perspective on most things. So he is really clueless when kids at school talk about certain things. Come to find out he

has what looks like a heat rash, but we will confirm with the dr. > > Anyway, to my question. My son has always had these paranoias with deseases or germs, bugs and other things that I can't think of right now. Just wondering if any of you had this with your kids? My son will get obsessed if he hears about some illness, bacteria or whatever and will not let it go. He will get very paranoid about it. Has anyone else had experience with this? > > Hope this got a laugh out from some of you! Sometimes you just gotta laugh! :-)> > ne>

OMG, my son is exactly the same with storms! He follows doppler radar on the

computer and gives us minute by minute updates, and when there is thunder and

lightning, he really freaks. I don't know who is worse, him or the dog! Right

now he is following the flashflood watches around us, and is very concerned that

it will affect us. It is very hard to calm him down, and I can actually feel his

heart beating out of his chest because of all of his anxiety. We once went to a

parade, and the wind started to blow and dark clouds started drifting over, and

he got so anxious that we had to collect our things and literally run for the

car as he screamed all the way there! I just try to talk in a very calm voice

and reassure him that everything will be OK, and I let him sleep with me if he

needs to...hopefully it will get better as he gets older. He is 11, almost 12.
