Speaking personally, TT was the first site I ever visited to learn about CNO,

after reading about it on Dr Mercola's site. I didn't do anything about it

then, just kept researching off and on, using CNO from a health food store and

trying to find an Australian source so I didn't have to order overseas and

import it, not being sure what customs will do from one day to the next. And

yes, TT gets mentioned frequently.

Welcome to the forum.

Dear Passkey,

Welcome to the forum!

You have raised a popular issue, which is been

addressed often here. TT VCO was the fist brand I

tried, and I really like it. But since then, I have

ordered from a number of other Internet companies that

have better quality VCO, and prices. Many of us seem

to recommend www.WildernessFamilyNaturals.com.

The two main oil processes used can also be a

determining factor in your choice of VCO. In general,

centrifuged oil has slightly more expensive has a

stronger coconut taste than the expeller pressed oil.

It depends on what you like. [some people (your truly)

LOVE the taste of coconuts, some find it repulsive.]

WFN offers both centrigued and expeller pressed, and

it is far better IMO, than TT's oil.

[by the way, WFN offers wholesale discounts for orders

of $300.00 or more. It may be worth considering a

establishing a buying club in your area for this

reason alone.]

There is also an informal VCO rating page posted

somewhere on the forum, which you might find

interesting, if you can navigate around the site.

Also, the messages on this subject can be found in the

archives.

Make sure the container actually says Virgin cococnut oil. It is possible you

were shipped expeller pressed coconut oil which is not Virgin and has no coconut

taste.TT has a good reputation so if your oil isnt right they will fix the

problem. Email them with your problem.

Hi ,

The container does say Organic Virgin Coconut Oil, but

it doesn't smell, nor taste like coconuts. I did

contact TT and they responded by saying in part:

Many people love the taste of our Coconut Oil and feel

it tastes better than any other brand on the market.

Others don't care for it. We cannot guarantee taste,

as it is very subjective. Not everyone agrees that the

best quality foods taste the best. But we don't

believe taste should be the ultimate test in judging

the quality of a product. We concentrate rather on

guaranteeing the quality of the oil and we believe

Although taste is subjective, VCO should have some coconut smell and taste

unless they advertised it as tasteless. There is a quality coconut oil that has

much of the coconutty flavor filtered out . I beleive Tess knows that process.

Have you a freind who is familiar with how virgin oil is supposed to taste?

Sometimes a cold or allergy could affect the way a person smells or tastes. TT

sometimes checks here to see whats new maybe you will get a response from them.

My first gallon to coconut oil came from Tropical Traditions. Taking

it caused my throat to feel all scratchy. I contacted them and they

told me it a detox reaction in me. When I got on this list, I found

out about " catch in the throat " caused by coconut oill which contains

moisture and is starting to go rancid. So I have never ordered

from them again. Since then, I have used half a dozen other brands

and none of them gave me problems with my throat. My favorite

coconut oil (so far) is centrifuged oil from Wilderness Family

Naturals.

http://www.wildernessfamilynaturals.com/virgin_coconut_oil_centrifuged.htm

To me it has a great taste and aroma. However different people rate

oils differently, so best to order a small sample of any oil, if

possible.

Hi ,

I don't have allergies, nor a cold, as I can smell &

taste my other VCO just fine. I did ask my neighbor

to smell TT VCO and eat a cookie made w/ the VCO, they

confirmed that the VCO did NOT smell like coconuts, but

that it did have a peculiar ordor. They said the

cookie tasted " odd " . I believe I've got a tainted

batch. I hate to waste all that money I spent on the

gallon. I even bought a year membership to their club

:(

My first gallon or two of VCO were from Tropical Traditions, back when

Wilderness Family Naturals carried it, and it was fine; it had the

mild coconut taste, and I had no problem with it. When WFN stopped

carrying it, I switched to centrifuged VCO, and I like it even better

than the TT oil.

WFN has several different grades they sell. I buy the centrifuged oil

because I like the flavor and aroma. Gallons and 5 gallons come in

plastic pails which are food grade plastic. I do not know how pints,

quarts, or half-gallons are packaged. They do sell small samples if

you want to check the flavor. As you want good flavor, I'd stay away

from expeller pressed oil. WFN has a webpage with a form to fill out

if you have any questions not covered in their webpages.

Its a shame they arent more responsive. They should be like Viviendo and ask

for it to be sent back -or at least a sample so they would know if there is a

problem. They might find the repeat satisfied customer is better thsan a one shot

deal .

Ive been using the centrifuged from WFN like Alobar , but I think I want to

try the ANH oil the next time I order. It will be a while since I got a 5 gal

bucket for Christmas.

I want to share my observations. And please remember these are my

experiences and just my views.

I've been using VCO for about 11 months now.. Really pleased with the

results. My weight has dropped 23 lbs, cholesterol dropped to within

good range, HDL up, Trig down, Liver enzymes much lower.. Blood

pressure is lower (not a major drop but -9 off the bottom number).

I recently took advantage of a sale at TT where they had the quart

sized glass jars on sale for 15 USD. I purchased a few. I am very

disappointed in it. First of all the smell is coconut but a bit

strange. Taste in cooking is OK. But taking it buy the spoonful is

very difficult. Catch in the throat/strange grittiness.

I've decided to use it on my skin only, so far so good.

So as to what has been really pleasant so far:

Wilderness Family A++

Nutiva

Tropics Best

Aloha Nu

AGATEGUARD (ebay-when I can find it)

Coconut Oil Supreme

Not that great to me:

Jungle

Topical Traditions

The one other thing that I've noticed (call me crazy) But Every night

before bed I saturate my hands and feet.. And my nails are much

stronger and grow faster...

Still not sure about storage. Most of my unopened oil is liquid..is

that OK? or should I place it somewhere where it stays solid?

Thanks everyone for a great resource to learn from!!!!!!

Thank you for the infomation. I know TT has a good

reputation, but based on what I've experienced, I'm

not sure I would purchase VCO from them. I just

submitted my order to WF for a quart of oil. I'll use

the VCO from TT on my skin. Thanks again!!

I have used TT's oil....they do make a Expeller VCO, no flavor AND a

non-expeller VCO which DOES taste like coconut oil which is more expensive

than the expeller pressed oil.

I am using Vivendo now and like it much better.

Maureen,

Thanks for the link! What else from there have you tried? and liked?

They have a pretty interesting assortment of products. Any feeback on

their raw honey? Or their soap (I just can't go no-poo!)

Thanks,

Above is a link to this weeks Tropical Traditions special on coconut

cream concentrate. It is a buy 16 oz get 16 oz free deal, which means

getting a quart for only $14 plus shipping. Great way to try it. This

is what we use to make our own coconut milk, but others use it also as

a wonderful spread.

They also have a special on digestive enzymes, which might be

worth looking at.

I hope this is not true, because i just ordered some from them. They

were having a 2 for 1 sale, so I went for it.

I've tried their regular VCO and it was great.
