Guest guest
I used to have to make lists for my son during un-structured times. while I had a general schedule for him at home, we had times/days where it was unplanned. I gave my son lists with activities to choose from. If he couldn't choose from the list, which was often a problem, we decided to flip a coin to choose between #1 or #3 etc. Sometimes he couldn't pick and asked me to pick for him. This was quite successful during the time it was needed. On some of the lists I had to put time constraints and others not as I wanted him to endure those longer. Hope this could be useful for you. Boredom is the number one trigger for him to go into a rage.He also has ODD, which I found out from his recent hospital stay. Put boredom and ODD together and you have one very unhappy, uncooperative child. I need ideas for how to cope and how to entertain... Guest guest
I do have a jar with activities for my son to choose from, but most always he does not want to choose. If I choose for him, he refuses to do the activity. I'll try the coin toss next. Thanks! > > > > > > > Does anyone have some for my 8 yr old with Aspergars? Guest guest
Try the list but remember, sometimes you have to let them sit with their lack of comfort. If you respond to their being upset too quickly, you may be feeding his anxiety. So, you could prepare a list, laminate it so he can't rip it, and tell him that these are his choices for 2 to 5 mon. - Fri (however you work it out) Give it some time to work, but know there will be some bumps in the road but you gotta give this some time. I would get rid of the jar and use a list. I think our types like seeing the visual in front of them. Guest guest
my child is never able to pick from an activity either. why is that? she seems to get so confused and over-whelmed, but i am not sure if its sensory or her OCD, or what it is. would an O.T. help with that? or would it be another type of therapist? On Jul 26, 2010, at 9:13 AM, Ginger wrote: I do have a jar with activities for my son to choose from, but most always he does not want to choose.
