Guest guest
Hi Everyone, Hope you are all well. I was hoping to get some thoughts on tests that I should request for my son's tri annual evaluation. He is 11 years old, has Aspergers, auditory, memory, visual, OCD, social, fine motor, issues with math and writing. My district is not happy about having to provide a 1 to 1 aide for him. They have also been trying to cut social skills as well as Speech and OT services. It has been an ongoing battle. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Have a great day! Thanks again!
Guest guest
I would say only a neuropsch evaluation is going to be helpful for AS kids. Our lawyer said to me that this is the really important test for any school advocacy. Many AS kids do so well on education tests. And only a neuropychologist understands the social impairment. I have not found that speech teachers or counselors or OT's understand how to evaluate this. Noone but the neuropsychologists understand how these kids get over stimulated easily. Any only the nueropsy's understand the learning issues with executive function. I have not found functional behavioral assessments helpful for advocacy unless your child has acting out issues and you are trying to argue for services. Our neuropsychologist recommended an aide in 3rd grade and many other services. We had to wait 3 more years for the school to fully agree to the services she needed. And we had an advocate and a lawyer (in the background we didn't want to make matters worse). I really think the neuropsyc reports should direct services instead of requiring parents to advocate. The children suffer to many years having to prove a disability. Good luck!!!!
