Guest guest
So, any other parent would be saying " Hooray " !!! Ever since my son tested out of the ASD program, his schooling has been mediocre at best. He is VERY good at math, and struggles alot with reading. He is in 2nd grade, and will be 9 in March. We held him back due to social issues. He is still not reading at a 1st grade level, and every night, we struggle to get him to read his book. He does get help through the LD program, but it seems to me that he was so much happier, and making better progress when he was in the ASD program. He made progress, was excited about the progress that he was making. He is now old enough to realize that he is different because of the reading issues. He " hates " bringing home the folder with his book in it. Why do they have to make them different colors? He always says that he hates reading, that it's stupid...that the folder is stupid...and then it will escalate into a meltdown with him breaking and throwing things. He KNOWS that he's not up to speed with the others in his class. I really wish that I could get him back into the " ASD box " , but I can't dumb him down. Any other suggestions? It's only going to get worse as he gets older...especially when he finally realizes that he is a year older than everyone else in his grade.
