Guest guest
My 12 year old son was transferred to a school just for aspergers because the school district did not have a classroom for him. The school is a private school that costs over $40,000 a year and the district is paying the entire amount. They also included door to door transportation in the IEP. I am thrilled and grateful, but now I need to know if anyone has advice about the busing. The IEP includes door to door transport to pine hill, but I found out that they would pick him up at 6:25am and school doesn't start until 8:30am! He would be on the bus for 2 hours. And then in the afternoon, school gets out at 2:30pm and he isn't due home until 4:15pm. I can not believe that they feel that almost 4 hours a day on a bus is good for these kids. When I take him to school it is only a 25 minute trip, each way. District transportation says that they have 4 schools to deliver kids too and pine hill is the last one. So he is essentially picked up first and delivered last. I don't know what other schools are on the route, I was so stunned when she told me the times, that I told her I would call back. Now I am just pissed off! The more I think about it, the more mad I get. So, my questions are: Do you know anything about busing requirements such as to the max length they can keep a kid on the bus? What if he has to go to the bathroom, or someone acts up or harasses him? I don't think there is anyone else on the bus but the driver and the kids. Is it worth fighting over when they are already paying for Pine Hill? Should I just drop it or fight for it? What would you do?Tomorrow I am going to call and ask them exactly the route and the schools and how many people are on and off the bus and when. Any advice would be grateful.
