I met a therapist at a Asperger Conference in NJ and she was

certifed in RDI. It sounded good. The focus was on parent

training. The therapist mets 2 times a month with parent and

child and teaches skills to help the child develop relationship

skills and especially be more flexible.

It sounded good . The part I didn't like is that you have

to sign a contract for a few months and these people

don't take insurance either. I have spent so much money

over the last 5 years on out of network therapists and

doctors, it is ridiculous. And my AS child does not

respond at all to insight therapy.

I was just wondering if anyone tried this in our group.

I agree I can't afford any more of these programs. We have spent

do much already. I can endorse 100% Yale Univeristy's parent

management training as a behavioral method that really

works for kids with ridgid mindsets. I spent a fortune with

so many therapists over the years but this plan really does

work well.

I can't vouch for RDI I just don't know if it is worth the money.

I contacted them by phone during the summer. I was put on a wait list

and sent many forms about my parenting style back to them.

I hope this is of some help to you. Here is the web page.

This is an evidence based parenting program. It has been

compared in clinical trials parents using this method vs kids using medication

only. This program is considered highly effective in reducing oppositional

behaviors. It is not a cure for AS or other issues but it is a method for

parenting and shaping behaviors.

I had a hard time finding a behaviorist that could advise me here in NJ without

making the situation worse.

They have books that can be bought that have the exercises in them, whether one

does the training or not.

We were fortunate enough to be able to check one out from our library. The

material in it looked really good, and like it would be helpful if we did it,

but since we have other children, we just cannot devote the kind of time to

that. Instead I have chosen to research and work with my ds extensively on

expressive language and communication this year, in the hopes that if we can

communicate well, we can solve a lot of problems.

That said, see if you can check out a copy from a library, or perhaps a

university library nearby might have it for you to look at even if you don't

have an account. From what I remember, it seemed like a book worth owning,

except that we just don't have $ for everything.
