Guest guest
Judi, both of them are OK with LDN, one is an antidepressant, although in a low dose (off label) is for pain, meloxicam is a NSAID, neither are opiods........ Guest guest
I have an 8 year old daughter who was diagnosed with Asperger's in Jan 2009. (Along with AD/HD) We started with ADHD meds...then added Risperdal...swiched that for Abilify...now after a 15 lb weight gain we've moved to Geodon. I'm not convinced that any of this family of anti-psychotic meds are really doing anything to help. Has anyone found anything that works or helps? I'm ready to remove these drugs altogether... Guest guest
I've been told that adhd symptoms are part of aspergers you don't need a dual diagnosis. Regardless - it's not clear what you are medicating as risperdal and abilify are not for adhd but for the aspergers behavior.. usually violent type behaviors (i think). My son is on intuniv & vyvanse for adhd type focus, impulsivity, distractibility behaviors.... and we've mostly seen very positive changes. Guest guest
The biggest problems for my daughter are MAJOR meltdowns...Hitting, Kicking, Throwing things - biting if she can get to you. Probably 75% of her day she's just fine - as normal as everyone else - then when something happens that isn't what she planned or expected, or doesn't go her way - MELTDOWN. School emergency removals are much too frequent, and at some point this will have an ugly impact on her education, even though she's an honor roll student to date. ---- McAllister <cjrlmc@...> wrote: > Lori, what is it you are wanting help with? Guest guest
Hi,I found out that the drugs do not help completely. A combination of weekly therapy and medication has helped my daugther as well as getting her involved into activities that keep her busy.My girl gained a lot of weight, but I keep her on the medication because I am afraid that her depression might come back. I take her to see a nutritionist that is helping her to eat right food. She still is overweight, but she is getting aware of the calories on junk food and she is trying to eat right. Every afternoon I take her to ride her bike and she walks 1/2 hour from school to come home. That is helping a little bit, but still she is at least 20 pound overweight, she is trying to lose weight and that is what counts for me. Definite I am not going to change medicine. ..There is a trade off : happy versus overweight... ( ) MedsI have an 8 year old daughter who was diagnosed with Asperger's in Jan 2009. Guest guest
, Our Developmental Ped told us the same thing. ADHD is part of Aspergers not a secondary condition. Thats why so many kids were being diagnosed as ADHD instead of their true diagnosis of Aspergers which is why there is a larger number of kids being diagnosed bc originally they were misdiagnosed. But who knows in Five years they will be calling it NVLD when they finally decide to put that in the DSM. :-D On Apr 15, 2010, at 4:00 AM, bkaspiemom wrote: I've been told that adhd symptoms are part of aspergers you don't need a dual diagnosis. Guest guest
I took Remicade for about 4-5 years as it slowly lost it's effectiveness. I was then switched to Humira which I've been on for about 3-4 years. During both of these medicines I was also taking Methotrexate as well as a few others (indocin, tramadol.) Because my liver panels recently came back as elevated, I stopped taking the Methotrexate. I couldn't tell any difference after more than a month. The doctor told me that now that I'm not on MTX, I don't have to take liver panels anymore. Good news for my wallet. As of today, I'm only taking Humira and Tramadol (Ultram). I'm still in constant pain (probably 3 on the pain scale), but it's tolerable after all these years. I only notice the pain when I think about it. Anyway, to be more specific to your question: I went from Remicade to Humira with no noticable side-effects. It was my rhuematologist's suggestion to switch to Humira and not Enbrel. He has mentioned Simponi when my Humira starts to become ineffective.

Guest guest
Thanks Janice. I have an appointment with my primary care doc next week and will discuss all this with her. She is a great doc..spends lots of time with you. My pain doc seems like he's in such a rush to get in and out it's aggravating. I do gain weight easy..I appreciate all the advice I've been given from the group on that and will watch for it. Did you have to tweak your BP meds while on the pain meds? S************* Re: meds I just turned 60 but had to have 4 stents in my heart last March my family is prone to heart problems so I saw it coming and got to the doctor in time. I have had high blood pressure most of my adult life until March when my doctor finally took it seriously and gave me a drug that now keeps it at 120/70 which is perfect. To bad it wasn't done years ago. Some pain drugs can raise your blood pressure. That hapened to me a couple of times before it went up really high and didn't come down until the meds were changed one of them was codine. The Nuerontin is a tricky drug some people can take it with no problem while others(like me) cannot even take the smallest amount. Beware it can also cause weight gain if you tend to gain weight easily. Janice meds I went to the pain doc yesterday and told him how much pain I was in after the bilateral radiofrequency ablation. Guest guest
Hello everyone. I am a " lymie " and relatively new to this group. I have a question for you all----I was treated for lyme already, I had it for a year before i was treated----21 days of doxy---that's it. Thats all my GP would give me, and afterwards he pronounced me lyme-free, which is a bunch of b/s I know. Anyway, I'm still having symptoms from the lyme, but I can't get anymore meds. I have gone to two different infectious disease drs., who were a waste of time. I told both of them about my current symptoms, and all they did was talk to me---no prescrips for meds were given. In the meantime, I'm walking around carrying this virus inside me called lyme. I am on Medicare and Medicaid, as I am disabled, and I can't afford the expense of paying out of pocket for an LLMD who doesnt take insurance at all. I wanted to hear from the group if any of you have been in the same situation financially, and what do you do to get the meds you need if you can't get them from the drs. I was considering ordering doxy and flagyl online, it's gotten to that point. Do any of you know of a place I could order what I need without a prescrip that wouldn't be poison from overseas? I'm desparate. Please write back you guys, I need this help.
Guest guest
Seriously: do NOT just go on antibiotics without a doctor's help. Combination abx treatment is far more complicated that just taking doxy and flagyl together (and, in fact, my LLMD didn't use doxy in his combos, preferring other, more advanced drugs from the same family). There are really serious side effects that must be watched for. Most doctors rotate the drugs in the combo anywhere from every few weeks to every few months (I took about 14 different antibiotics over the course of 21 months of treatment). You can end up far more disabled than you are now. It's not worth the risk. Some LLMDs are willing to work with you on the payment thing; they understand about Medicare. In the meantime, while you're figuring this out, I'd suggest you get started on the Buhner herb protocol. It's slow going (years and years); but if you've got no access to a doctor, it's a whole lot better than nothing. Sara On Nov 19, 2010, at 3:57 34PM, cheryl sell wrote: > Hello everyone. Guest guest
You don't have to go the antibiotic route if you don't want to or can't afford it. The herbs work as good or even better. Each person is different. The herbs won't take any longer to get rid of the Lyme and from several people I've spoken too it has taken much less time than the abx. If you want to try the herbals you should read " Healing Lyme " by Buhner. It will give you plenty of information. Also there is a recent study out that Banderol tincture and Cats Claw together are very effective against Lyme. All the best in your healing. Barbara > > Hello everyone.
