Guest guest
Hi! I just read that parents can provide ABA therapy for their own ASD children. I can't afford to have someone else provide these services, so I'm interested in where these materials can be found. Does anyone know anything about this? Thank you! -Karie
Guest guest
This might help, but please be cautious when implementing treatment without a certified professional. http://www.rethinkautism.com/ > > Hi! Guest guest
I recommend you buy a good ABA book. I bet there are new ones since I last did ABA. I used, " Behavioral Interventions for Young Children with Autism. " This is a basic ABA how-to. I also have " A work in progress " which is another good book. We had a man on our list a while back who wrote an ABA book entitled, " Educate Towards Recovery: Turning the Tables on Autism. " I saw that a number of books were coming out when I stopped doing ABA as a tutor. So you might find something you like better. Look ABA up on Amazon.com or ABA websites and see what you might like. You can also join email lists that focus on ABA for help. Usually there are groups in larger areas that are called, " FEAT " groups. You can google them - " Families for effective autism treatment " FEAT. You most certainly can do your own ABA program at home. You don't need special supplies. You can use books and items in your home and neighborhood. You can make up games and such using the internet or pictures from the internet. One thing I did myself with my own ds was I had an ABA therapist oversee the program, especially in the beginning. I could not afford weekly visits so we just did every two weeks and sometimes once a month. You might like to pay someone to help you get started and to be around for trouble shooting. Another option is to find ABA services that are lower in cost. A friend used a place from Texas that was free. http://www.woodallkids.org/ They would come to her house once a year for trainings and to over see things but they were available for emails with questions during the year. They do the initial eval's and such and get you started. Roxanna " The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing. " E. Burke ( ) ABA Hi! Guest guest
I'm not sure what kind of training you mean but overall, ABA would be helpful. Roxanna “Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.†- Luther King, Jr. ( ) ABA Just wondering if many of you have completed ABA training?? We have a 10 y.o with behavioural difficulties and are wondering whether it would be useful for us to do the training to apply it with the help of a psych?? Does anyone have any thoughts?? Guest guest
Tammy, I'm not sure how training is done for parents. For a behavior plan to work you have to first find out what the function of the behavior is and what the triggers are. That is where a good ABA therapist comes in. Will you be getting a full behavior analysis first? Sometimes with AS kids you have to manipulate the environment first to deal with some behaviors since our kids often have sensory issues. Sometimes the behaviors of our children are due to extenuating circumstances beyond their control. A good behavior analyst will look at all the factors. I hope you get the help you're looking for. ne From: Tammy Phelps <phelpstammy@...>Subject: ( ) Re: ABA Date: Wednesday, March 2, 2011, 5:00 PM HI Suzanne,I live in AUstralia, trained appropriat people to see are few andfar between - hence us looking at self training. We use lots of charts etc too they help if the mood is right!!Sounds like school age would be helpful??...tammy
