Guest guest
I would check out Tony Attwood's website. I have read many of his books and he describes Asperger's in a very down to earth and easy to understand way with plenty of great examples. My son is also 8. He knows about his diagnosis, but his classmates are still a little to immature overall to really understand. His teachers and school administrators are (very) informed as well. I am lucky in the respect that not only am I raising a son of the spectrum, but I am also currently in school majoring in psychology, with post graduation plans to work with adolescents with ASD (purely coincidental). I am subject to both experiences and have made great effort to educate all those who work with my son in school. ( ) sharing Asperger's diagnosis with classmates We finally told our son that he has Asperger's - he is 8. He asked me today if we could share this information with his class and I was thrilled! For him to now understand why he is different is a HUGE step!!! Now I am scared! One of the very high ups in FISD has offered to help teach the kiddos about Asperger's but I want to add a take-a-way. Something that the kids can bring home to their parents so that should my son do/say something inappropriate they will have a better understanding of the "why". I know that parents will have their ideas and thoughts about my which is fine, but if I can get to understand my son's unique challenges I will feel as if I have done my job. He is soooooo sweet and still just trying to find his way in the social world of 2nd grade. Anyone have any ideas or letters that they have shared with classmates and would be willing to share with me??? Thanks for all responses! Guest guest
I'm guessing that O.A.S.I.S. may have a letter of some sort...or Starfish Advocacy. Check out their websites. ~ Mommiest
Guest guest
I remember seeing a letter like this on the internet somewhere but can't remember what site. I think OASIS might be it. ne From: mommiestgirl02 <mommiestgirl02@...>Subject: ( ) Re: sharing Asperger's diagnosis with classmates Date: Tuesday, February 8, 2011, 8:22 AM I'm guessing that O.A.S.I.S. may have a letter of some sort...or Starfish Advocacy.
