Guest guest
How many of you have signed a consent to allow your school the ability to your childs medical records? I know that you can limit the information, but I guess my concern is who makes the dicission on what they do and don't need to know if you sign even a partial release? I did sign a release at the begining of the school year. (We live and learn.) Then not long after when the person who is over our special needs kids in our district took it upon herself (without my knowledge) to call my daughters specialist and ask if she would release my daughter back to school sooner than she had originally stated in writting. I get a call from the doctors head nurse (thank GOD) before they even called the school back. I told their office at that time I didn't want ANY information released after that. Am I being rediculous? I just feel that the school could have at least called me and asked if I thought my daughter was ready to go back or at the very least just stated hey we are going to touch base with the doctor and see what she thinks. I would have been okay wiht that! I am not hiding anything. Then I also asked for a copy of the records the school got from a hospital stay my daughter had. Ladies if you don't already know this, if you sign a release like the one I did they get EVERYTHING in your childs records copied. Down to the people who came to visit them and how long they are there. I just felt that was of no purpose for the school. They need to educate my child , period. Now they are asking me to sign another release. I am not doing it. I can get any test results or records from the doctor myself for them. I can then decide what I choose to share and that is my right as a parent! The director went so far today as to suggest she come to my house I sign the release and then SHE would go tothe doctor and get these records they want for the school. REALLY???? Wrong answer. I just told her " No , I have the records you are wanting. It is not necessary for you to have the full report! You only need what is pertent to make good decisions and placement for her education! " I know she is not happy. But guess what ? Neither was I when she called the doctor behind my back! Their should be a website for parents to discuss issues within their district! Do any of your areas have something like this? I think parents should have a heads up! Thanks for listening...
Guest guest
MY son's school has access to my son's psychiatric history, however each release I sign is only temporary for certain requested items (think its only good for 3 or 6 months). The school counselor has to contact me before he wishes to get access to the records. I'm lucky since I live in a small school district and I get along with all of the administrators at my son's school. They know I'm knowledgeable about my son's condition and won't try to pull anything, because I'll learn about it (my son's psych. also has to contact me whenever a request is made for his records). She should not be angry as long as she gets the records. If you want to go through the extra steps, it shouldn't be her business. You are totally justified ( ) medical consent for school to get medical records How many of you have signed a consent to allow your school the ability to your childs medical records?
