Guest guest
> Did you find that you needed to elevate the dosage frequently? Pat, I take 1 1/2 3 mg capsules (for a total of 4 1/2 mg). That seems to work pretty well for me. There are some days when I think a little more would have been a little better but it's never been significant. I started with one pill, and that helped almost immediately but it wasn't perfect. I tried 2 pills and that was too much - making me groggy in the morning. And 1 1/2 pills turned out to be the correct dosage for me. 11 pills does sound like an awful lot - no matter what the dosage of the pills. It sounds to me like it isn't doing the trick for you. My fibro was strictly caused by lack of sleep due to unrelenting pain, unlike most fibro in women which seems to be related to hormones in some way. Once my fibro problem was resolved, my sleep problem remained. It seems like my natural sleep cycle got screwed up, or maybe my natural melatonin got screwed up. In any event, melatonin worked for me. My original problem is long gone, but without melatonin I can still only sleep less than 2 hours. It certainly sounds like melatonin isn't addressing the cause of your sleep problem. Rick
Guest guest
Thanks, I'll just experiment and read on it more. Re: melatonin My daughter is much older and larger than your child so I'm not sure the correct amount of valerian root. Yes, we use it with the melatonin. She takes one capsule along with her 3mg melatonin.
Guest guest
Hi all, Could someone give me advice on what to start out the melatonin dosage. I have a 10 year old and doc recommended that I try melatonin to help with the sleep issues she has. Anyone have any ideas for where to start with dosage as don't know how much to give. She is 5' and 112lbs if that helps. She also is taking concerta to help with her adhd/as dx. Thanks in advance. Sharon
Guest guest
Our 11 year old (Sensory Issues) daughter takes 1 to 3 sublingual 1mg tablets per night. Our 9 year old son (AS) takes a 3mg time release every night. Our daughter has a hard time swallowing things so she gets the sublingual. Our son has problems with waking in the middle of the night, so he takes the time release. We can supplement his with an additional 1mg sublingual if he's having trouble falling asleep. Hope that helps! Beth ( ) Melatonin Hi all, Could someone give me advice on what to start out the melatonin dosage. Guest guest
Start with about 300 mcg. I have my son on 150 mcg and he is about half the weight of your daughter and is six. The first few times 300 mcg even helped me sleep and I'm at 190 lb. Now I'm talking micrograms which a very small amount. Most of the bottles you'll see in the store are 1 to 3 mg. In other words 1000 mcg to 3000mcg. So that dose should be safe. If she is getting too much you'll know because she might have very vivid dreams that will wake her. She might also be extra tired the next day. But at 300 mcg that shouldn't be a problem. You might have to up the dosage after a little bit if you want it to still help her fall asleep. Try giving it about 15 - 20 minutes before lights out. I say lights out because she has to be in bed before the stuff takes effect or it won't do you any good. Melatonin isn't a sleeping drug. If you are already calm and starting to fall asleep it will give you that extra little boost you need to fall asleep. But if you are walking around or super excited forget it. The effects will come and go quickly and it won't help much. In either case though it should help her get a better overall sleep even if it doesn't help her go to sleep faster. Melatonin has been really really great for my son. Whether its the melatonin or the slightly better sleep it has really taken the edge off his anxiety. Its not that hes calm now like other NT kids but I've noticed much less freeze ups, shorter transition times, he warms up to people faster, has fewer zoned out days, etc.... I really believe its made a difference for my son and I hope it helps your daughter also. I would also recommend you try the melatonin before bedtime too. Its safe and you will be able to get an idea of how it effects her too. You'll probably find that its very mild and that hopefully will help you get an idea to of how its effecting her with regard to dosage. Guest guest
Hi Sharon, our son is 5'2" and 105 pounds. Our doc said to buy 3 mg tablets, cut it in 1/2, and give it to him for a few nights. If no change/help is observed, then use the whole 3 mg tablet. Hope that helps. Good luck! Liz T.
