We have our son in a small private Christian school. Our experience has been great so far. The kids are pretty nice. He is only in first great so he doesn't stick out too much yet. Our school is kind of unique. He goes to school 3 days a week and has homeschool for two days a week. So it is a hybrid. The thing that makes it so good is that you get the best of both worlds. You get the advantages of formal instruction but you also get the advantages of one on one tudoring.

Furthermore for an Aspie school can be exhausting. So having two days off from all the social pressure is extremely helpful. We found that he was beginning to fatigue as this semester wore on which we also noticed last year. So we have started him on 150 micrograms of meletonin along with Omega-3 and he seems to be focusing better at school again.

He also played his last game of soccor which should take some pressure off of him since he stresses out about that. He scored one goal in his last game. He started slow but stuck with it. He had trouble running fast tonight but he managed to be at the right place at the right time. He is playing in a five year old league though he is 6. It has helped his confidence. He finally turned the corner playing soccor when we started the meletonin. I think it took the edge off just enough. Today he started slow cause he got a bit bent out of shape because his mom was on time so the game hadn't started yet. So he had to join in the practice. This was off schedule as far as he was concerned and he got a bit anxious I think about that change.

OK so back to the school. We live in Gainesville, Florida and the school is cornerstone Christian Academy. If you call them they might know of another school that does the same thing. We aren't anti-public school but we thought this was the best thing for him. He also has a peanut allergy which can be deadly so a small school is what we needed.

Hope this helps. Again the half and half I think works out real well for the aspies.

Hello,It's been recommended to me by several professionals (staff at my son's Early Intervention school) to request a new evaluation for my daughter through our school district. We are now homeschooling her for second grade. We also homeschooled her last year. Previously she attended preschool and kindergarten through the public schools. Three years ago when she was evaluated, the school did not find her eligible for the Autism spectrum label, only Early Childhood Developmental Delay. When she finished kindergarten, she was released from special education altogether. I never felt that the school staff understood our concerns for our daughter. We decided to homeschool for a number of reasons. Since she was doing so well, and we preferred this option for our family, we were happy to go this route. We still enjoy homeschooling, but our daughter is also having a difficult time this fall. She has had an increase of meltdowns, and

other negative behaviors, including aggression towards family members. In general she is well-behaved in class settings (she attends extra curricular classes).I am also having a hard time handling everything, since I have 3 children, and our youngest baby has many special needs.I looked up the law in Michigan, and I understand that we could have her assessed, and I think receive services like OT/PT. I'm not sure if we would want to re-enrol her in school. We are also considering a Christian school.Does anyone know about the benefits of having her assessed while homeschooling? What services could she receive while at home?
