Guest guest
just wanted to say I know how you feel. So frustrating. I realized today this is the longest D has gone without being suspended since kindergarten. He's in 6th in a private school now for autistic kids, so they don't freak over every little thing. I can't count how many times I've heard "we've never seen anyone like him" or some variation of that. Either its major bs, or these staff members have a rude awakening coming, because there are a lot of these kids AND parents coming their way. Not a goodday... Somehow you need to get the special services departmentinvolved. I too had horrible experiences with the schoolprincipal in our school. I think in the past kids like ourwere treated as offenders with bad parents. We had to pay a specialist to come to the school andadvocate for our daughter. Some schools are betterthan others.I know what a struggle it is. Try to find a therapist thatwill get involved. Our lawyer advised of this, and it seemedto work better than us trying to explain things. Pam >> Today my son's new school that he has been at for 7 days, called to say he had a meltdown, refused to do his work and " trashed " the classroom. They said they were going to suspend him and I needed to come get him. Come to find out, he didn't trash the classroom, he shoved a few desks around and knocked over a trashcan. > I was told they want to hold a manifestation hearing. I asked what were they hoping to gain by that. He has plenty of documentation in his file that states that, plus all they have to do is research Aspergers. I mean seriously. > Then I said his FBA and BSP were from his old school and obviously it is/was not working which is why WE requested the change of placement. Now he is in a new school, new classroom, new everything and is still in the transitioning mode as ASD kids don't transition well. I say, what we should be doing is a new FBa and new BSP. So why would you want to hold a manifestation hearing when you haven't exhausted all other avenues. Other than that they have an agenda to get rid of him. Her answer was basically that she didn't know what to do. That in her 15 years in dealing with children, that she has never had a child refuse to do something and tell her " you can't make me either " . I find that almost impossible to believe. > Then she said she would consider our recommenations on how to deal with our son because she had no experience in dealing with ASD > children. Now this is the assistant principle telling me this. > Anyway, sorry so long...but just yesterday I was thinking that maybe I could now get a chance to BREATH! So much for that....the other shoe just fell. :-(>
