Guest guest
Bravo...Bravo...i am so happy for both of you. and you have every right to BEAM....I would be too! So proud of him! My son is going into 8th grade too! But no way would he go to camp...he says that is not "cool". He is going on 19...ha ha! Jan Janice Rushen "I will try to be open to all avenues of wisdom and hope" From: <smacalli@...>Subject: ( ) Dylan is back from camp...and it's good news Date: Sunday, July 26, 2009, 8:16 PM Well, my boy (Dylan, 13, mild Aspergers) is back from camp and it sounds like he had a good time. I asked the Camp "Mom" who went how he did and she said "he was fine. Only problem we had is he was Mr. Social and made friends with two other campsites when we were in Tennessee and sometimes we'd have to look for him and tell him to come back to our campsite." My jaw kind of dropped open and I said "Well, wow! Good and bad at the same time!" I had given her a letter about Dylan (modified from the letter I sent to his school teachers last year) to read prior to the trip so she understood him a little better but it didn't sound like he had any problems. I am so happy!!! She also said something that insinuated he was one of the more well-behaved kids in the van (can you feel me beaming???) He told us at dinner tonight that there were 4 kids (I think in his church group) that would sometimes talk to him and sometimes not so he decided "I'll just go make some new friends" and then he did. Like, no big deal, he's a seasoned pro or something! He said he hung out with 2 girls the most, which really surprised me but also made me happy because I think it was a safe environment to do so. I'm not going to pull a McCarthy and claim he's "cured" now, but all indications point to him continuing to progress socially more and more. He certainly still has a ways to go, but he really has a solid foundation under him. He spent a week at a social skills camp in late June and seemed to do a great job there too. Now let's see what 8th grade brings in the fall!

Guest guest
Just catching up on all the posts- but I am so glad to hear that your son did so well! That is so fantastic and such a growing experience for him and you! Oh the little things that make us so happy! We are parents who truly have joy in the little things in life! Keep you fingers crossed- my aspie leaves for his first camp on Sun. He is very excited, me getting a little nervous! Even though this camp provides all their linens, we went today and bought him a sleeping bag because he was afraid they might have allergens in their blankets!
