Guest guest
Friends, If you work in or with a school or just want to make things better at your school, please go to Health Schools Networks website: http://www.healthyschools.org/ See the section called " Announcement " and bonk where it says, " click here to order " http://www.healthyschools.org/guides_materials.html A healthy school is a community asset! A word about the Guides and Materials you can order from us: Our 4-6 page guides, factsheets, and information packets (usually $3 each) are designed by and for parents with professional and technical reviewers to help parents and others resolve school environmental problems, or to help schools adopt environmentally healthier practices. We started our system of packets and guides in 1995. For example, our 6-page Parent Guide to School Indoor Air Quality (funded by the US Environmental Protection Agency) that builds from EPA's " Tools for Schools " IAQ program, identifies health symptoms and no-cost steps schools can take, and gives advice on what to do if your child seems to be the only one affected. In 1999, the American Lung Association re-distributed it to all of its affiliates nationally. Our 8-page guide on Healthier Cleaning & Maintenance Practices and Products that promotes 'green' housekeeping was developed jointly with the NYS Association of Superintendents of School Buildings and Grounds. NYS SBGA represents facility directors from more than 500 of the state's 700-plus school districts. Our 79-page " Environmental Action Guide for New York State Schools: Help for Parents and Others in the Absence of Standards Just for Children " ($10) is designed to give parents for the first time the same basic information routinely available to school employees covered by federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA, all private institutions and adopted for public employees in 23 states) for their own health protection. It was researched by a team at Cornell University's School of Labor and Industrial Relations. Important: All calls and requests are confidential. Healthy Schools Network is a 501c3 not for profit research, information, and education organization. It does not sell or share its mail list. Donations to support our work are tax-deductible and can be earmarked to help us help more children and their parents. A message to our Out of State readers: Healthy Schools Network is a New York State-based not for profit organization with a growing national track record advocating for children's environmental health at school. While our guides and factsheets are designed for use first in New York State, we have found through years of experience that 'kids are kids and schools are schools'. Using our GUIDES, and checking with your own state's education or health department, you will be able to attack a health-threatening building problem today. To solve larger statewide issues, such as securing more funds just for urgent school repairs, or protecting the occupants of all schools under construction, you may need new state legislation or regulations. To read the reports they have on line - go here http://www.healthyschools.org/reports.html Check out the " good news and bad news " to see what is going on in your school district at http://www.healthyschools.org/health_learning.html If you can afford to make a donation, send it to Healthy Schools Network, Inc., 773 Madison Avenue, Albany, NY 12208 Knowing , she and the other volunteers will keep right on plugging until the Pesticide Notification Bill passes and parents everywhere are informed about toxic chemicals being used in and on school grounds. They are, in a nutshell, good people doing great work - help them out if you can.
