Guest guest
HI ,Probiotics are important but you need to go VERY slowly with them. On GAPS, Dr. -McBride recommends starting with just a sprinkle of probiotics and then working up to taking a full capsule of her Bio-Kult probiotic. As you have learned, severe die-off reactions can occur. I think your body is in need of detoxification. Do you have a juicer? Or could you borrow one from a friend? Juicing is very helpful for constipation and is great for detoxification. I borrowed an Omega juicer from my friend and the juicing has been very helpful for my family. Make therapeutic juices that are half fruit and half vegetable juice. I like to do half apple juice and then I add some carrots, celery, cucumber, a couple of beets. Beets are very detoxifying for the liver and the enzymes in the vegetables will help cleanse your gut. Drink on an empty stomach within 1/2 hour of making it (the enzymes die after this period of time). You may have some loose stools because the enzymes will kill off parasitic yeast in your intestinal tract. I would also recommend epsom salt baths for detoxification. This is magnesium again, though. You will need to drink lots of water to prevent dizziness.I think the GAPS diet would be extremely helpful for you. I would introduce it gradually though. Go off of grains and dairy. Then add the bone broths into your diet. During all this time, very slowly start with a sprinkle of probiotics and build over a series of weeks to a full capsule of the Bio-Kult.Best of luck.On Dec 27, 2010, at 9:31 AM, stephanie propper wrote: Hi. My name is . I live in NYC with my beautiful son and wonderful husband. I have been reading the posts and everyone on this board seems so knowledgeable and willing to help. I am just going to lay out what is going on with me. If anyone can give me an guidance I would be very grateful! I have had crohns for 20 years. Over the past 9 months I have had a number of new symptoms and have decided that it is time to fix this digestive problem which I believe is at the root of all the other symptoms I have experienced in 2010. I have tried many diets, supplements and herbs over the years with some short term success but nothing that lasts more than a few weeks. I have been following the BED for about 4 months and have had much fewer symptoms but the constipation and rectal bleeding are still present. Some other symptoms come a go. I have been lo osing my hair and have not menstruated in 3 months. In the past I used magnesium to treat the constipation. However, recently the magnesium causes lightheadedness and dizziness and I can no longer take it. What have others found helpful for constipation. Does constipation get worse on the GAP diet? Second, last year I started on VSL-3 probiotics and had a severe die off reaction that put me in the hospital for 5 days. The doctors were dumbfounded by what was going on. I had an abnormal EKG, an abnormal heartbeat, headaches, nausea, dizziness, night sweating... They finally diagnosed me with pericarditis and after about 3 weeks I was feeling back to normal. I firmly believe it was a die off reaction because it came on shortly after starting the probiotics. I had never had those symptoms before in my life.I tried the probiotics again over the summer and again had horrible symptoms so immediately stopped. Best.
