Guest guest
- You're in the right place. Just read back some of the many, many posts and links on the subject of 'side effects' of SSRI's.
Guest guest
You may wish to check out ICSPP_Discussion_Group as there are MANY links to sites there to help with getting off these drugs if you so choise and hook up with safe alternatives. They are also on the cutting edge of activism and getting the word out to others about the state of affairs in the dirty business of psychiatry. I hope you find the guidance you need there. All the best Judy From: Vickie Burnum <vickieburnum@...>Subject: ZoloftSSRI medications Received: Wednesday, May 6, 2009, 10:36 AM I have been taking Zoloft for over 10 years. Recently I just went up on my dose to 100 mg. I am cutting my dose back to 50 mg because it caused me to feel depressed, brain fog etc. Does anyone else experience dry eyes, dizzy spells out of the blue, depression, brain fog, memory loss, numbness of things going on, etc.???? Please email me for advice or help. I may be asking the wrong questions for this group, so if I am, could someone please send me some links or websites to check out. Guest guest
Vicky,There are several site that might help you. I would recommend weening off the drugs under the care of a medical doctor but not all doctors are equal and so you need to shop around and find one that will work for you.www.acam.org has integrative doctors, I don't know any of them and you would have to call and explain yourissue but these are medical doctors who are more liable to use nutrition and test for things that a regular MD might not look for.www.alternativementalhealth.com also has a list of doctors and practitioners that will treat mental illness and help gently ween off meds.www.theroadback.org has an online book and a program to help people get drugs out of their lives.http://www.labelmesane.com/home.html is another resource. The video I just watched on their site is powerful. There are probably more but that should get you started.Jim Zoloft I have been taking Zoloft for over 10 years. Guest guest
Sorry if this has been asked before......I was wondering how many children are on Zoloft, how it has worked for them, and what side effects they have experienced. My 8 year old has tried on meds a year or 2 ago, but we stopped due to side effects. He started having tics with Concerta & Strattera and couldn't stay awake on Clonidine (even after giving him just a quarter of a pill). He spent most of last year isolated from his peers in the classroom and at lunch (they put him in his own little " office " in both places). I stressed at the end of the year I wanted this stopped as I feel it is hindering his ability to learn the social skills he so desperately needs to learn. We are writing a new IEP and I intend to have this in there. Anyway, after sending him to boyscout camp for 3 days, I am worried including him with his peers will not happen. He was sent home 2 out of 3 days for hitting and aggression. He hit my brother last Friday out of anger and just really seems to have a hard time controlling his emotions anymore....especially anger. I have always thought most of this comes from anxiety (for example....lunch is worst at school as he struggles with sensory issues in the cafe). I was just considering trying some meds again, as his facial tics have been non-exsistent for months now. However, wouldn't ya know, they have started back in full force over the last few weeks. They do seems to be worse when he is talking to me or when we are out in public, making me think they go along with his stress. It makes me wonder if he is not more stressed now with it being summer and not having the consistency of a school routine???? He went 2 weeks ago to a camp for autistic kids (where he had his own counselor).....which he absolutely loves!!!! I decided to send him back on my own dime next week. It will be very much like the autistic camp, but this camp is just for any kids with disabilities. It is very structured and he loves it, so I'm a bit surprised he would be feeling so stressed right now, but I guess we are only talking a week at a time. Any suggestions would be great. I am terrified to try meds again, but worry I am not helping him by ignoring his anxiety. I myself have anxiety and have taken meds for it and know how much it helped me. Another thing I'm hoping it will help with is his limited diet. He refuses to eat so many things. I'm not a big meat eater (can't help but think where it comes from, lol), but I do remember I found myself eating more while on the meds...... Thanks for your help! Guest guest
My son was on an anti-depressant but he was weaned off as his depressing from losing his poppy lessened...but he takes his anxiety medicine when he needs it. He knows when he does. He used to call it his "anxious medicine". I am so glad that he knows when he needs it. It has helped him go places and do things he probably would not have. And, when he goes thru anxious times and doens't want to go to school ...it has helped get him back into the swing of things. I don't push him to do things he doesn't want to do ...he has a lot of fears..he will not ski, snowboard, skateboard, go on a lot of Amusement rides, etc. He won't go to dances or a lot of social things...but when asked to sleep over his friends house...or even just to go over when a bunch of boys were there...he needed it to take the edge off...now he can go without the meds. I am not promoting meds but for my son...it has helped. And, to be quiet honest..I have been on Zoloft for many years and I have not had any side effects. I have tried weaning off but become too depressed and cry all the time at the drop of a dime...so back I am on it. I am an adult..so I am not sure how it is with children. Ask your psychiatrist. And, one must get on it slowly and build up and weaned off.....it is not something you can take one day and not another. And, it is definitely not a drug to just stop. Believe me...I learned the hard way... Guest guest
My oldest ds took zoloft for some time with no side effects and good outcome. It really alleviated his anxiety and allowed him to learn and participate. It sounds like he could use some social skills in his IEP plus help practicing these skills in the real world. It might lessen his anxiety as he learns the skills he needs. Roxanna Whenever I feel blue, I start breathing again. Guest guest
My son has been on Zoloft for almost 2 years now and it has really helped with the anxiety and tics. We have seen no side effects. It definitely helps with the catastrophic thinking (there will be no food in the restaurant that I can eat), but I think it's time to go to a higher dose has he's having more break-through anxiety. Those of you with kids on Z, what's your dosage? I need to talk to the dr. of course, but just curious. He's 8 1/2 and about 60 lbs. FWIW, I've been on Z for anxiety for several years and it REALLY helps. I can't imagine my life without it. I think anxiety just runs in my family and Asperger's runs in my husband's so we'll just have to face a life with Z and books put in a precise order.
