Too much tv was a problem here, until I worked out a token system where my

daughter (6yrs old) had to earn tv time. 1 token per ½ hour tv show, 2 tokens

per 1 hour tv show. To earn a token she had to either read a book or do a

chore. This really worked wonders for her! She also had to earn tokens for

things such as game time and trips to the zoo or museum.

thankfully, the crappy economy solved that problem for us....I cancelled the satellite tv service and now it's not an issue anymore. On Fri, Sep 10, 2010 at 6:25 PM, Amie <amiedawn1@...> wrote:

I must have the only child who doesn't like tv. My son cannot tolerate tv, video, video games, or even music of any sort. I myself cannot tolerate very much tv, and never have been able to ( & I am not an Aspergian), but have always loved music.

Oh no no....we still have the dvd player and she watches movies from time to time. The daily battle over cable tv programs is gone now though. I also don't have to deal with her obsessing over something in a commercial anymore.

I slowly tapered the allowed time down. If you make a big adjustment it most

likely won't go over well.

You might consider starting to limit tv in small increments. I think if you did it in one fell swoop, he'd probably go a bit nuts. I think mine would. lol. I would start scaling back tv viewing and then later, you can have him earn tv time such as tv can go on after homework is done or chores are completed or whatever you require. It would take time and effort to put it together though. One thing you can do to limit tv watching is plan other activities that are fun. Play a family game or make a game night. go out (probably when spring gets here if you are in winter now like we are!) and take family bike rides or do yard work or play kick ball, etc. Things that will get you away from the tv and also can be fun. it takes planning though. We are slugs sometimes and I have a hard time getting it together. But my ds is e-schooling and taking PE this year so we are required to do so many hours per quarter. So I really have to think of things. We've gone on many bike rides until it got too cold. Lots of swimming at the rec center. I am going to try to talk him into trying a karate class...not sure if he will. But it will fill his hours and get him out of the house to air himself off once in a while. <g>
