Guest guest
Illinois has some GREAT Asperger's programs. They advertise one through the Dixon, IL annual Aspergers / Autism conference. Put that in to GOOGLE or whatever (the conference) and see what all comes up. ILLINOIS has some great stuff (I have been jealous over here in IOWA). I know there were some people a few years ago working to get an Aspergers School put together too, so please do look it up, and I would contact them. It IS all about early intervention. I would also highly recommend a sensory diet evaluation (that is what it is call). We went to an occupational therapist for that. THE SERVICES are amazing, and help with the spinning, etc. There are OTHER THINGS YOU CAN DO to teach him to meet his sensory needs. He is meeting his own by spinning! It IS amazing. So those are two ideas I have. I wish I knew the name of the program in IL, but since I am in IOWA, obviously, there is NOT a need for me to remember it, but seems like the STATE acctually funds it, and there are services in IL too (for Aspergers) if I recall correctly (unlike MOST states----we use 'other diagnoses' to get around it and get the help so needed). Good luck. Ruthie in Iowa. He will be tested (I don't know how), to see if he qualifies for the Early Childhood Classes, which are geared towards special needs children, or if he would be placed in the "regular" Pre-School Class. My son has Aspergers and does not have any social skills with children his own age...he becomes very anxious and spins. I really want him to get into the special needs program. Is there anything I can do to ensure this? If for any reason he does so well on his tests that he qualifies for the regular classroom, can I refuse that & request the other? Any insight would be appreciated. I live in Illinois, Winnebago County, Rockton SD. Thank you All!
