Guest guest
my son is on a great medication called Intuniv, it is not a controlled substance like ritalin is. Ask your doctor about it. My son's fear issues are manageable, but there. We are thinking about trying ritalin to see if it helps his attention/focus, but I'm a little concerned about it adversely affecting his fear issues. Anyone have any experience one way or the other?
Guest guest
Our experience with Ritalin...it has to be dosed every 4 hours (at least ours did - no extended release) and there were definitely points where you could tell it was wearing off - about 45 minutes before the next dose was due. Not alot of continuity...very up and down. We really had a good experience with Focalin...its an XR formula, and did well for my daughter. I'd definitely look for something with an extended release. Guest guest
I would make sure you see a child psychiatrist and not your family doctor. I know some stimulants do increase anxiety. But there are some that actually also help to reduce anxiety. I don't remember which ones but this was the information I heard at a conference on Asperger's medical treatments.
