Guest guest
well, after a few months of waiting, my husband and I finally had our first meeting with the psychologist who will be evaluating Liz. We are finally officially on the path. I got a good feeling about her. We even found out we have a friend in common. Any words of advice as we begin our journey? Hotmail has tools for the New Busy. Guest guest
My hope is that the therapist is very supportive. And I hope that if you ask for behavior advice that the therapist uses solid behavioral therapy (like ABA or positive reinforcement with shaping). I found many therapist ill equipped to give behavior advice. I hope she directs you to social skill training that will train the parents on how to improve non verbal communication. This is a tough area to make impact on for some kids. I also hope this therapist will help write letters and advocate at the school. You need support. If she doesn't want to get involved with the school (and some don't) and you have any school issues (most people with AS kids do) look for a therapist that will help. I have found nueropyschologist better understand AS than therapist that mostly focus on anxiety and ADHD kids. But sometimes there are therapist that really focus on AS kids and understand them well. If your child has any LD's or slow processing speed the therapist should understand the issues with that. A nueropsch would.
