Guest guest
How do you deal with the constant talking, touching things, and saying inappropriate things. I find that I am not so patient recently & I feel bad, but at the same time, I want to see him control himself better. We gave up on meds due to side effevts...stimulants give him facial tics & he gets pretty much every side effect that comes with whichever drug we have tried. Any suggestions? We do social stories, see a therapist, and try vitamins (although he does not always take them). Also, any suggestions for my sanity?? Guest guest
I found a very low dose of antidepressant took the edge off of me feeling that I always have to be aiding and assisting. I don't feel so stressed out. It would be great if you could get respite care so you can have regular time off to socialize or relax. I don't have this so I keep our activities as low as I can for my sake. I am still looking at medications as the answer. There is so much information in Dr. Hollander's book The clinical treatment of autism on medications and the results of what works and what does not. Has he tried any class of mood stabilers or antipychotics. Usually the SSRI's can calm an AS kid down and at low doses they may not have issues. There is also the older class of meds called TCA's anafranil type meds that require more checking to use but don't increase hyperactivity. I would review the antidepessant class of drugs with a strong autism neurologist or a psychiatrist that works mostly with the autism population. At the least look at Dr. Hollander's book, it is very helpful I thought. Pam > > How do you deal with the constant talking, touching things, and saying inappropriate things.
