Great idea...as a veteran member who rarely posts at this point in time (son is 23), I know I have learned alot from this list and would love to see something like you have suggested for all the newbies. Blessings on your day, Gail

I've been seeing a lot of new posts of parents or caregivers of kids newly dx. Is there an existing list of what to do/where to start/your first IEP meeting/asking for an evaluation, etc. for these parents?

If not, could we create such a list for parents new to this road? Something that we could all contribute to and create online and then send to each parent that comes online looking for help? Any thoughts?

Hi ,

we could probably set up a list of "pointers" at the website with little effort. The thing is, there are plenty of places to learn what to do such as over at www.wrightslaw.com. So my question is, do you think we have something new to add that will help and be different? And how would we define our list to keep it on topic and useful?

Anyone call you Roxy? Cute nick name, btw. I think you bring up a good point, but I wonder how to help the newbies who turn to our site. slaw can be overwhelming with all the info. On Mon, Nov 15, 2010 at 9:41 AM, Roxanna <MadIdeas@...> wrote:

Please do! i am reading posts out of order and missed this one. i asked about what you all have in your IEPs. i will be updating my son's soon since he had been diagnosed with Tourettes and Aspergers both in the last few weeks. We already have an IEP since he has severe ADHD. this would help alot!

I found this on the sLaw website, called the First 100 Day Kit. The whole thing is helpful for newbies, go to page 42. It breaks things down on what steps you should take.-http://www.autismspeaks.org/docs/family_services_docs/100_day_kit.pdf

I think it's a fine idea, I just want to know how you think we can "contain" it. Or perhaps we don't need to contain it? Just thinking out loud really. What directions/instructions should we title it with?

Nobody calls me "Roxy". Well, people do. lol. But not because I agreed to it. Actually, as a child I was a real tomboy and they had a different nickname for me ("Rocky") Not as pretty, now is it! lol. But it stuck. Imagine my dh when we dated. He finally said one day he would not call me that, it sounded too weird for him. But to this day, he calls me, "Rock" for short. Go figure. lol. Most people end up shortening it to "Rox" now that I am an adult. If people knew me as a child/young adult, they still use "rocky", though.

Done with memory lane now. <g>
