Guest guest
That book is finally out??? Great! I've been wanting to pick that up for a long time. When my son was diagnosed, and we learned about Asperger's, it became clear that it was totally my older sister! Also, she married a guy with undiagnosed Aspergers. I've heard that they find each other. It must be true! Also, for you book lovers, I believe Elder is the brother of Augustin Burrows, who wrote some very interesting and twisted memoirs. Check him out. > > I am currently having my 8 year old daughter evaluated this month for AS. I just completed the parent interview and now we have three appts. for her coming up. > I went to the library last week to get more info on AS. One book I just completed was called " Look Me In The Eye " , by Elder . It is a biography about a child growing up with AS from his point of view. I must say, much of what he describes I see in my own daughter...PLUS MY HUSBAND! Anyone else out there possibly married to an aspie and not know it until later on? Anyway, he is currently reading the book and keeps saying " Yes! " ...OMG...So true " . etc... > > Just wanted to suggest this book to you all for anyone who has not read it. Guest guest
's book was a great one to read, He was at a book signing here in Denver almost 2 yrs ago. Another good book to read is The Way I See It, by Temple Grandin. What I like more about Temple's book is she gives parents a lot of ideas in order to work with not only their HFA child but she also any child on the spectrum. Temple own dx is HFA, and it is helpful to hear how an autistic person perceives the world and how they put their thoughts together in order to function in a NT world. This book helped open my eyes and my mind in order to try and see things the way my AS child does, at least it explains why he does what he does in order to function daily. I am working on reading another book by Temple, Thinking in Pictures. ( ) Great book... I am currently having my 8 year old daughter evaluated this month for AS. I just completed the parent interview and now we have three appts. for her coming up. I went to the library last week to get more info on AS. Guest guest
We discovered my husband had Asperger's as the school psychologist was giving us my son's diagnosis. He started too look " distant, " and I asked him if anything was wrong... He said, she's describing me... That's how I've felt all my life! The psychologist asked him if he would mind if she asked him some questions... He met 8 of 10 markers in the first battery of tests! He was so relieved and it has helped us understand my son so much better! Gladys > > I am currently having my 8 year old daughter evaluated this month for AS. Guest guest
Kerri and Gladys, We've never had my husband officially evaluated but are CERTAIN he has AS. He struggled significantly as a child. I would so like to see how many markers he has. :-D On Mar 14, 2010, at 7:57 AM, Thornton wrote: Dear Gladys: Does your Husband have any pointers for getting aroung his diagnosis at work. Guest guest
- My husband also has a difficult time at work. He thought it ADD and tried medication. The meds worked did not work after trying three different types. He is a classic job hopper. Gets bored easily once he has mastered a job. If there is no challenge he seeks a job somewhere else. It is hard on our family now as well, for now he is considering rejoining the Navy...for a " purpose " ! Can't stand dealing with the corporate world anymore...ugg... Guest guest
Yes - after my son was diagnosed, I did what you are doing now - reading lots of books, looking at websites...I knew that my nephew was definitely AS right away, but it took a long, long time before I made the connection that my husband probably has AS, too...More months go by and I realize that my Mom has some AS traits as well. Guest guest
Dear Kern: Good luck. We all seem to be messed up in different ways. I hope you do not have to move. I hate moveing. T.
