Guest guest
I've noticed this just lately. He's eating less at meals and not liking the usual foods that he typically eats. He has been drinking some coffee with us in the mornings, but that's not new. We keep this stimulant to a small amount and do not bring soda into the house at all. Could the coffee be an appetite suppressant? But, then that wouldn't really explain the decreased portions for dinner, then. For example, this morning, ds had a small latte. I made buttermilk pancakes and eggs. He didn't touch the pancakes. Got angry with me and asked me for suggestions. I told him: oatmeal, cereal, yogurt. He kept saying, " I don't know, I don't know. " I finally told him we had to go and said I guess he'll eat later when he's hungry. We got to the car and he was angry with me for letting him starve. He told me I wasn't being helpful. I am so beyond stressed right now. I was ready to lose it. I feel I'm on the brink of just having a break down. I told him if he made the choice not to eat, there was nothing I could do. He was getting agitated and I needed to get him to school. He says, " pancake. " I asked him how many and he said one. That's what he ate, one small pancake. What's going on with his appetite? Is this common? I'm getting to my wits end with this kid. His intake apt. with the Autism unit at the Children's hospital isn't until sometime in Sept. Meanwhile, he has no therapy/help, other than what we implement at home. If you have a formal type of behavior intervention program, how would this eating issue be dealt with? Thanks. Guest guest
When my kids won't eat we do a lot of frozen smoothies. Here are a few good recipes: 1 c. sweet potato 1 c. carrot 1/2 c. pineapple OR 2 large handfuls of cherries 1/2 long cucumber OR 6 oz calcium fortified orange juice 2 tbspn flaxseed 2 prunes 2 dates 1 banana frozen fruit of choice OR pear apple spinach rasberry (all to taste) And it is very easy to sneak in a small amount of frozen carrots, spinach, squash or zucchini without them even noticing... especially if you use some frozen rasberries/strawberries in the recipe to mask the veggie. I even sometimes add a small amount of ground cooked chicken/turkey for the protein and they do not even know. Good luck.
