Guest guest
Hi, Since no one responded, i guess that no one else is dealing with all three of these as a diagnosis? Too bad i was hoping for some guidance. I was wondering what everyone has in their IEPs. This is what we have just based on Jonny's ADHD and "other issues" as they were yet to be diagnosed at the time of the IEP. He has Speach 2x a week he has special ed for math and reading (needs smaller groups for concentration reasons) he will be retested for PT and OT once a week he has guidance What else would be typical for a child with Aspergers? any help would be much appriciated on this as we may have to re-do the IEP with this new dx.... mom of Jonny 6 with Aspergers, Tourettes and ADHD And 12 with Cystic Fibrosis and related issues ( ) new here Hi, My name is and my son was recently diagnosed with Aspergers and Tourette Syndrome. He also has ADHD. Jonny is 6. Getting the diagnosis has been a bit overwhelming. Particularly since i was told that he probably had PDD-NOS rather than Aspergers two weeks before...The tourettes i have been pretty sure of for a while now, but we had to wait to get that dx for a while too. anyone with experience with having all 3 of these? mom of Jonny 6 with TS, ADHD, and apparently Aspergers too and 12 with CF
Guest guest
What does your child need? For instance: 1. Modified tests 2. Extended time for tests and projects 3. Tests read orally 4. Reading help...special reading programs ... 8. Adapted Gym 9 Speech 10. OT 11. Copy of all the notes 12. Study guides 13 One-to-One (paraprofessional) 14 Re-take on failed tests 15 Modified homework 16 Seating preference in classroom 17. Re-phrasing of questions or directions, if not understood 18. Homework planner signed 19. Assistance with organization 20 Social Skills training (if available) 21 What does your child need help in ....math, reading, English, etc. 22. What are the goals for your child...they must be measurable. Where and when does your child need these modifications...in all classes or just certain classes. I believe if you go to s Law ...they have a book on IEPs that you can purchase....I was considering doing that. Jan P.S. Guest guest
– Sorry you didn’t get the response you wanted. My 20yo son has several diagnoses (Aspergers, ADHD, mood disorder). I am not sure they are all “separate†issues or interrelated. Not sure it really matters. What is the most important thing is to base his IEP on his “needs†versus a specific diagnosis. While many people with Aspergers share many common traits they also have many differences. For example, some Aspies are quite social and crave friends, others are more loners and are perfectly happy by themselves. So, again, the IEP needs to address areas that your son struggles with, e.g., small reading groups due to concentration issues, “chunking†work/projects into smaller pieces so he is not overwhelmed, help with organizational skills, PT for handwriting or fine motor deficits, etc. Hope this info helps. Guest guest
Hi , most AS kids will greatly benefit from a social skills group- but the best way to go is one specifically geared towards kids with AS. Liz T.
