Opposite effect from meds?

Hello everyone. I joined about a month ago and haven't posted since my intro but thank you, to all of you, for your posts. I have learned so much just from reading what you share.

I do have a question. My youngest has AS and ADHD. Before he was finally given the AS diagnosis, we tried quite a few different ADHD meds for him and none of them helped. Some even made things worse and the rest only increased his appetite and he does NOT need that! LOL. The neuropsychologist who finally gave us the AS diagnosis in writing recommended Valerian and we tried that too. He had some really bad outbursts/meltdowns while on it and this was after making so much progress with needing just simple reminder cues to help him calm down. So my question is, have any of you also experienced these things with meds and have you found anything that can actually help anxiety issues in your child or help him sleep better at night? I've been thinking about discussing anti-depressants with his doctor but would like to hear from the real experts first...all of the parents who are living it!
