Guest guest
Hi,I have gone through a nightmare this week. My aspie girl has been scratching and hurting herself after she got into an argument with her friend. I cut the friendship until further notice...it is so traumatic for me to see her doing that stuff to herself. Her therapist told me that if she does not stop I have to call the crisis center to evaluate her.It is just she and I living in the house. I am a single mother with not family around. My lupus that was dormant for a while flared up and I have been very sick dealing with her issues. Last night after several weeks of pain and sleepless nights I got to sleep for six hours. I work full time, stress out by her condition and my job. When I am having a bad day at work it is most likely I get a call to pick her up from day care because her behave distract the other children. I talked to her about the importance of having a job. I need she to help me and to stop that behave.Have somebody had any experience with this issue? inputs are very much appreciated. Thanks ( ) unexpected diagnosisHi all,My 4yo daughter is the one I suspected to have Asperger's. My 8yo son had been dx'ed with ADHD and I suspected he may also be dyslexic, we went back to see his psychiatrist yesterday and were told that the diagnosis is no longer ADHD, but Asperger's. My only reaction to him being diagnosed was a headache. My daughter is seeing a different psychiatrist and she will have some testing done on the 8th of June. After he was diagnosed, I thought, if this is Asperger's WHAT is going on with my 4yo daughter? I understand the spectrum concept, but I'm wondering if Asperger's is just more severe in some than others, yet still considered Asperger's and not some other PDD. Well, at least I won't have to wait too long now to find out. What is also confusing to me is how my daughter has been to a psychologist and a psychiatrist and is now waiting for testing by the same psychiatrist in this long drawn out process, while my son got a new label slapped on him both times he went to the psychiatrist. It seemed so quick and simple that I can't help but feel like it wasn't a thorough enough process to come to a diagnosis. However, in reading about Asperger's for my daughter, I kept thinking how much it sounded like my son as well. So, I believe it is an acurate dx, but I just wonder about the process and how many folks might get mis-diagnosed by this particular psychiatrist because of his haste. Guest guest
my daughter used to bite herself. she has autism. She would try to bite me and I wouldn't let her so she started biting the back of her hand hard when I would change her diaper. then it became all the time. It changed to biting her palm.. That lasted for about a year. I thought she would bleed but she never did. Now she hits and grinds her teeth when she is mad. I taught her to breath when she was having a hissy fit. Now she will say I am having a hissy fit and do big breaths. if she does hit later she sometimes says sorry I hit you mommy. I think she has rage issues that are hard for her to control. We do deep pressure to help. Can you research a sensory diet? Brushing the skin, big bear hugs, playing with sand, rice, beans, trampoline and many other things every day can help lesson these melt downs. They don't work during a fit they are just maintence. The weather affects my dughter big time. If it is really windy or about to rain she is just crazy. I try to be extra patient with her. If she is hurting herself I sit on her chest and hold down her arms and tell her I am holding her to teach her body to be calm. i know this sounds terrible but I will not allow her to hurt herself anymore. now if she can breath I won't sit on her but it is a warning. From: tfitzge134@... <tfitzge134@...>Subject: Re: ( ) scratching herself and bitting herself to bleed, HELP Date: Thursday, May 13, 2010, 7:44 AM Hi, I have gone through a nightmare this week. Guest guest
I know that feeling. I get so angry and stressed I can't cry. I need to though. I usually can cry int he shower. something about the water helps bring it out for me. It is important to cry and put it behind you as often as you need. Try to drink lots of water too. there is something called collodial silver that may help with infections. We bought a machine for about $150 and it makes 14oz in 15 minutes. It is super fresh this way because after 24 hours it loses it's potency. You can drink a little(tastes and looks like water) or pour it on owies to help. I am thrilled we have one now. If you want the number to the one we bought let me know. You might have to get a small cast band aid on her owie. I have a friend that had the dr use the cast tape to cover her daughters writs until her wounds healed. From: tfitzge134comcast (DOT) net <tfitzge134comcast (DOT) net>Subject: Re: ( ) scratching herself and bitting herself to bleed, HELP Date: Thursday, May 13, 2010, 7:44 AM Hi, I have gone through a nightmare this week. Guest guest
Take her to the doctor sooner rather than later. With the marks and the self injuries they will find immediate or crisis help to get through the right now as well put in place a treatment plan to help with tomorrow. Do you have a service coordinator? If you do call them and get crisis hours from them also. The more help you can get NOW the better it will be tomorrow even if it does not seem that way. Guest guest
Why not go to the store and buy some antibiotic cream for $5 and put it on her scratch? If she refuses to stop biting herself, you will really need to find professional help. Spend the $150 on finding a good behavioral therapist. Look up " ABA " or " applied behavior analysis " to find people who work with people who have autism and behaviors. I used to work with a little guy who bit his hand on a regular basis as just a sensory thing. It was such a big problem and we finally had to wrap his hand to make him stop. He was ruining his hand - skin was calloused and misshapen. It was a long process and we had all had to constantly keep a glove or wrap on him while he constantly tried to take it off or bite through it. But it definitely helped because he did eventually stop. Roxanna Whenever I feel blue, I start breathing again. Guest guest
Age 4 - she is probably not sure how to express how she feels (angry, ticked off, hurt, etc.) You could write some simple social stories about getting into fights with friends and ways to handle it - things to do, how to deal with her feelings, etc. I'm not sure if that is her exact problem, but that was my first thought!! My only reaction to him being diagnosed was a headache. My daughter is seeing a different psychiatrist and she will have some testing done on the 8th of June. After he was diagnosed, I thought, if this is Asperger's WHAT is going on with my 4yo daughter? I understand the spe ctrum concept, but I'm wondering if Asperger's is just more severe in some than others, yet still considered Asperger's and not some other PDD. Guest guest
Hi, I am very sad today. She is really difficult... I am at work and I have to keep cool, even tought invisible tears comes out of my eyes, I try to put an smile on my face and show the world the normal and nice part of me. But my heart is tearing in pieces... The scratch has stopped a little bit. I will know tonight after I give her a bath and check for scars.. Now I have another problem...she is refusing to sleep and sneaking to use the pc or video games at night. She has epilepsy and it is very important that she sleep. I put a password on her pc. I am threatening to take her cell and the pc away unless she go to bed by 8:30 or 9: p.m. She then gets depressed and feel her life is uselfull and tell me the school is bad, I am bad, everything is bad.... I told her, ok. I will quit my job, get rid of the cats and live in the shelter with you. I need to work for a living and can not stay home like most of her school classmate mothers. But she does not get it. She is into music, has a clarinet, goes to chorus, goes to music clsses, has a keyboard...and she is still unappy... Guest guest
my daughter gets unhappy sometimes too. I stay home and she tells me to go to work and daddy should be home. They always want what they don't have. If you did quit she would not be satified. It is a control thing. They need to keep checking the boundaries. It is ok for you to work and it is ok for her to be bummed about it. You are the adult and she will live under your rules. Just try to give her freedoms when you can and boundries when you have to.From: tfitzge134comcast (DOT) net <tfitzge134comcast (DOT) net>Subject: Re: ( ) scratching herself and bitting herself to bleed, HELP Date: Thursday, May 13, 2010, 7:44 AM Hi,I have gone through a nightmare this week. Guest guest
I understand the work thing and the work guilt that goes with it. It is very difficult. What I struggle with is leaving home at home. Like you am often near tears at work and don't want to draw attention to myself. I hope things get better for you. Riding waves until the calm! Guest guest
Hi, Thank you for emotional support. She is still bad, even though the scratching has stopped, I wonder if the medicine has stopped working... I can't wait to see the psyquiatry at the beguining of June. I thought that with support, aspergers get better, I do not believe that anymore. I spend all my sick and vacation time taken her to all the appointments and I just see slight improvement , then suddenly I see a regression and everything falls apart... Guest guest
She may need some counseling or extra support to learn how to better deal with her feelings so she doesn't hurt herself. Can you find someone in your area who could help? I worry because puberty is on it's way and that usually makes things worse before they get better. so if you can get some kind of support system in place now, you will probably help yourself and her so much over the next few years. Guest guest
Definitely have her evaluated by someone. She could have depression. But it could just be " normal " teen anger at not getting her way. stick to your guns! You are doing great even if it's hard. I used to joke all the time that if my kids didn't hate me, I wasn't doing it right. Just kidding, but it helped me get through the rough spots when they hated me for enforcing the rules. You have to do what is good for her health and well being, even if she screams and yells at you. So hang in there! Roxanna Whenever I feel blue, I start breathing again. Guest guest
At least you love her. I think about children in homes where the family ignores problems and let their children's future become something it didn't have to be. It is so hard on you because you really care. This is a good thing. You need some zen time. Try to work in about 5 mintues of personal time, tv, reading, quite resting, etc, every hour. Just 5 minutes and you can be anywhere but check out your mind if you can. Think of beaches and count your blessings. Force yourself. I know I think my life is the worst sometimes too but those are just really ugly thoughts that try to take over your life. You are a person. A valueable person who is a mother but that is not your only identity. I have to remind myself I love cats, squirrels, mountains, long drives, nature, and really my daughter too even though she is so mean. We are full of love you just have to practice it a tiny bit when you are feel grumpy and defeated. Things like this come in waves sometimes everything seems horrible but in a few years you may be in a very different place in your life. Maybe thigns will be easier or maybe not but they will definately be different so try not to be so consumed with right now. Do what you can then let go of the dark feelings. Be confident that you are a caring mom. That is why you are on this site. We all need a little support on those horrible days and sometimes those days last for a very long time. Even though my daughter may be so mean to me sometimes she is beautiful and so peaceful when she sleeps. I try to sneak in and watch her sleep when I am really hating her. This helps remind me of how precious she is.From: tfitzge134comcast (DOT) net <tfitzge134comcast (DOT) net>Subject: Re: ( ) scratching herself and bitting herself to bleed, HELP Date: Thursday, May 13, 2010, 7:44 AM Hi,I have gone through a nightmare this week.
