Guest guest
We're considering this for our very bright 14 yo. son with AS. He's gotten totally " hooked " on Facebook, making YouTUbe videos, often very inappropriate in nature (along with venting about kids treating him badly in middle school. His new school is small, mainstream, private but they just got wind of his videos and have suggested that we look into residential short-term care to get rid of " baggage " and return to their school when " purged " . I see how much pain he carries with him and he's made some friends at his new school but part of me wants to give him the best chance to work out his issues in a more intense setting, learn independence, conflict resolution. He's seen a therapist for years to work on this stuff, but the complexities of the teen social world will get harder for him and frustrate him further. What are the pros/cons of such a placement away from the comforts of home, etc. Heart-broken, torn. Please help. HTH
Guest guest
I placed my daughter in a partial hopitalization at Bay State Medical. she was also dealing with facebook issues. After three weeks she came home better, still with issues but much better. There is also a program called "in home therapy", where therapist come to your house. Regarding "kids treating him badly in middle school" I believe your son. The chances that you son is being treated bad by other children is high. I even have found out that somme parents helped their children to bully other children on facebook. The hospitalization helped us to find out the root of the problem and talked to the school regarding them.... Still they treat her bad, but now I call the police and they try to stop the children to keep the bullying problem.
