Guest guest
Hi All, My almost 7 year old is having a lot of behavioral issues in school. He has HFA plus OCD, ODD and ADHD, as well as some attachment issues stemming from multiple moves in foster care. He has been with us for 4 years now, and while some things are going well (he is an avid reader, is geninely concerned when others are upset, his language skills (both receptive and expressive have improved incredibly) and he has a knack for figuring out electronics), but his defiance, hitting, swearing, spitting on people, poking his aide with a pencil, ect... is getting out of hand. The school has been veru proactive and helpful, which is wonderful, but we now live in a very rrual area with liited resources. This joyous economy flipped s over so we moved back home to my mother's hose while we find our bearings. The shool has been very helpful and supportive, very open to working together as a team to help our son be successfl, even when the priniple had to ride the bus home with him yesterday (as he was behaving horribly and refusing to get off when the principle told him too), so he is now suspended from the bus for 2 days, and they are going to rearrange the bus route so he is the first one dropped off, as learning to safely and respectfully ride the bus is important for him. This is a public school, the bigest in the county, and there are only 8 kids in his 1st grade class. So it is a small school and they have been wonderful in trying to meet his needs. However job opportunities ae limmited here, ad my other son has physial and medical disabilites ad has to travel over 60 miles one way every day to have a pre-school that can meet his needs. I potentially have a great career opportunity in Rhode Island which would start this summer. So we would be moving toRhode Island. So I am in need of inforamtion abot schools that a handle a child like my son. He can not have a large classroom, and over 10 kids would be too large. He has very challenging behaviors biut is v ery bright and an flourish academically. If anyone can tell me about schools in andaround Rhode Island (public or private) that you know good or badabout, I would appreciate it. Thanks,
