Guest guest
I watched it and thought gee I would have stopped having kids after the first 2-3. 6 with Autism I would be in the nut house for sure even thou I love my kids. I have 2 on spectrum and they are handful’s as teens. It really (show) made me wonder even more about genetics. ~~~~~~~~~~Theresa
Guest guest
I've seen this one... I watched it around the time that I was told at 18 months by my DS's pedi nuro that he felt there was a chance that he was autistic (but HF) but didn't want to lable a child so young when they were so HF. I rember sitting there and crying as I watched. And like you (I've watched the show a few times) I see a lot of traits from their three AS kids in my son. I've watched him play at school/day care, where he is one of three spectrum kids, and I watch him play alone on the playground but then he will tell me about playing with his friends. DS is not so much anxious in social settings just aquward. And when he's over stimulated/reved up about someting he shakes his head. But the melt downs... I'm VERY fimiliar with them. And I know just how little it takes to bring them on. It was on last night. If was very interesting for me. Mostly because I don't really know any other kids with Asperger's in real life and I always wondered if some of my son's traits are just the way he is or is it the Aspergers. But this family had 3 kids with Aspergers and I saw things that totally looked like my son with them.Like the oldest ones idea that people were his friends even though the camera showed him barely interacting with them in school. The daughter had a lot of anxiety and had to leave the classroom often to go to the social worker. Again, like my son. And the younger son had meltdowns and tantrums. Been there, done that. They also had 2 non-verbal severely autistic kids, 6 and 4. That was sad to see. I never realized how little kids like that react or respond until I saw it on this show. It would be very hard to reach and teach them. That poor mom, she has so much to deal with. And of course, her house is completely trashed. But it was a really interesting show to watch. They had experts giving analysis of each child and their different issues too. I'm sure it would be on again. So look for it, it's called Autism x 6. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Suzanne suzmarkwood@... Guest guest
I saw it last night and really wanted to give that mom a hug, then donate some time helping her repaint the kids' rooms or just folding some laundry. I wasn't clear on whether they were all theirs biologically or not. It was nice though, to peer in on someone else's life a bit and not feel like I'm the only one going through something like this. I have 6 kids too. One has Aspergers(9), one has PDD-NOS(4) and one has no diagnosis other than developmental delays and SPD so far(21mo). Another two have sensory issues(6 & 3) and I have a newborn that doesn't like her face touched and will gag sometimes when offered the breast or a pacifier. > > Did anyone see that show on Discover Health about the family with 6 kids on the spectrum? Guest guest
I saw it too and was thinking “I should tell people on the groups about this show”. Same thing with me… I would have stopped having kids after my 3rd too – especially since she had a mix of boys and girls. Were the older two twins? I didn’t get the combined birthday party. Honestly, I felt they were hiding something. They were WAY too calm to be “real”. I know I have blow-ups and they hardly talked about that at all.
