Guest guest
We've had 3 this year. 1st on in November to create the IEP, one in Feb to add new " behavior " goals, and one at the end of March to discuss the new interventions we were going to try at home and schoool to help him calm himself during meltdowns. Guest guest
Usually just once a year. Our school does not want the overhead unless some placement is going to change. They are very poor about tracking goals and don't keep up with this kind of paper work. On the other hand I can call and talk to the principal or any teacher now that we are in a special education school and they respond immediately with changes (without documentation). Guest guest
Pam, you do realize that you can call an IEP meeting at any time and they have to accommodate you, don't you? You are not stuck with once a year. We meet about every 3 months (this past year it was September, November, February and May). Our next meeting already scheduled for August 30th--about a week into next school year (DS starts middle school). A big part of our meeting is reviewing his progress on his writing, speech and social work goals and updating them where necessary. We usually end up changing something at each meeting. Thanks, ( ) Re: IEP Meetings with School > Usually just once a year. Guest guest
Well since I have 2.5 kids with ieps plus the .5s is being developed we have had quit a few mtgs. If you count from the start of the school year I had a transitional ifsp to iep mtg and then an iep mtg for my son. Then I had a determination mtg to decide what to do with my dd then we had a mtg to do the autism testing then I had end of the year iep mtgs for my other dd and my ds. Then last week we had the mtg to review the evaluations and try and get the iep started and I have another next week to finish the iep On 5/6/10, Gladys <glad1@...> wrote: > We've had 3 this year. 1st on in November to create the IEP, one in Feb to > add new " behavior " goals, and one at the end of March to discuss the new > interventions we were going to try at home and schoool to help him calm > himself during meltdowns. > > Gladys > > >> >> I have many questions, but was wondering how many IEP meetings everyone >> has attended during the school year? Guest guest
WAIT!! You have as long as you need to " finish up your iep. " There is no legal set time that you have to have it done. Please don't let the school rush you into getting it done. A good one takes time and thought. If you rush it to sign it, you will spend years trying to re-write the hurried version. You've got to take time to develop the present level of performance, this part could take 3 to 8 meetings depending on how much testing has been done or how much the " school iep team " protests your input. THEN, you have the goals section. That, again, can take hours of iep meetings. Do you have someone with you at the meetings? Do you have anyone to look over the draft version to give you input? Guest guest
yes we have an advocate that is why we are reconvening so we have more time to think about the goals and b/c we sent them back to do an additional evaluation to add to the present levels. and we do know we can reconvene again if we have to and technically we arent " finishing it " b/c there are plans to do an fba beginning of next school year as well as call in an ot eval. but here ot is secondary so we cant even " officially " request that until an IEP is in place and she doesnt have an iep currently. plus we felt they were trying to rush everything so we wanted to be able to have plenty of unpressured time to go over the present levels, goals and accomodationswith our advocate On Sat, May 22, 2010 at 3:21 PM, <doyourecycle@...> wrote: WAIT!! Guest guest
I actually have a once a year IEP meeting, however with each report card I get a IEP progress summary. (My 15 yr old is 9th gr and is main-streamed with a 1:1 aide and many modifications on his IEP.) If at any time I do not agree with how things are handle or with anything on the IEP I can write the school requesting an expedited full CSE meeting to address the IEP concerns I have. (This also goes for any other school concerns I have for my child with the IEP.) (CSE- Committee on Special Education) In fact I just called one. We had it the other day. If I do not agree with something, no matter how small, in the IEP I just write a note on it saying I do not agree, and that I want it changed. The school has to do so. You do not have to agree with everything on the IEP. If you do not agree you can address it and et it changed, even if it means going to the board of education to do so. In our district most problems have been addressed between the special ed teacher and myself. If I do not agree with the teacher then I go to the special ed dept. if I cannot get the problem rectified thru them I call an CSE meeting.
