I don't have the various SCD, BED, etc. books so i don't have access

to a lot of the legal modified recipes and thought others on here

prob. don't have all the books too.

We always used Kefir or raw milk and cream before as the base to our

smoothies. Also added VCO but it would just clump up when it hit the

cold milk etc. So it was always lumpy and not very good.

Since we can't use milk/kefir etc, nor are brave enough to eat raw

eggs, what were we going to use for the creamy taste. Avocado.

I melt VCO and coconut cream concentrate. Equal parts totaling a

whole cup. Plus 1/4 cup of water on low heat. Only enough to start

melting, then turn off and keep mixing up. Blend it with a ripe

avocado. Be sure to pour in the VCO mix while warm and still

dripping so it will emulsify with the avocado.

I add water (or coconut water if not out) as i need it and some ice

cubes to bring the temp back up as the warm VCO mixture makes the

batch a bit warm. This is all personal pref on thickness and temp.

Usually 2-3 cups of liquid.

Usually fruit equals 2 - 3 cups. Strawberries, or mixed tropical

fruits; pineapple, mango, papaya, or mixed berries; blue, straw,

marion, raspb. Usually frozen fruit, organic when we can find them.

This fruit is in addition to the avocado and 1 small banana.

This blending with the avocado (which none of us like to eat alone),

makes the best smooth consistency and i can't even taste the VCO

(none of us like the flavor of VCO either). This is the first method

used we have not tasted the VCO.

My blender is always full about 9 - 10 cups.

This is one of the only ways i can get more fat - VCO in our diet. I

wish i would have known the avocado trick yrs ago!

ps

I plan to make some ice cream using the VCO, coconut cream, coconut

water, avocado for my base. Waiting for when fruit is really in

season and i can use nicely ripened fruit for a more full body

flavor. Using the frozen stuff leaves a bit of flavor to be desired

in the smoothies, i think i would be very disappointed if i made ice

cream right now with it.

I am certainly no expert. I've had my band since August. I think it

would depend on how many calories are in it. Personally, I often

have a smoothie for breakfast. My band is a bit tighter in the

mornings and I don't care for breakfast. If I get to the end of the

day and I still haven't had enough calories, I sometimes have one. I

drink no soda with sugar or juices so I don't get liquid calories

that way. I would think another thing to consider is how long do you

stay satisified after you drink one. I stay satisfied for hours on

things like that. I am sure you will hear other opinions. This is just mine.
