Guest guest
Hello, It's been recommended to me by several professionals (staff at my son's Early Intervention school) to request a new evaluation for my daughter through our school district. We are now homeschooling her for second grade. We also homeschooled her last year. Previously she attended preschool and kindergarten through the public schools. Three years ago when she was evaluated, the school did not find her eligible for the Autism spectrum label, only Early Childhood Developmental Delay. When she finished kindergarten, she was released from special education altogether. I never felt that the school staff understood our concerns for our daughter. We decided to homeschool for a number of reasons. Since she was doing so well, and we preferred this option for our family, we were happy to go this route. We still enjoy homeschooling, but our daughter is also having a difficult time this fall. She has had an increase of meltdowns, and other negative behaviors, including aggression towards family members. In general she is well-behaved in class settings (she attends extra curricular classes). I am also having a hard time handling everything, since I have 3 children, and our youngest baby has many special needs. I looked up the law in Michigan, and I understand that we could have her assessed, and I think receive services like OT/PT. I'm not sure if we would want to re-enrol her in school. We are also considering a Christian school. Does anyone know about the benefits of having her assessed while homeschooling? What services could she receive while at home?
