I have been putting my son off too....delaying it....he has sensory issues and hates taking care of his hair, face and teeth. I am constantly after him to wash his face and brush his teeth. He loves the shower but I really don't think he truly washes in there.

I am waiting a little bit more...maybe next summer...my son is 13 1/2 and going into 8th grade. I am definitely not in a hurry. I have seen so many parents putting braces on their children in 3rd and 4th grade. My son didn't even have all his permanent teeth in yet.

I want to make sure he is a little older and hopefully a little more mature so that he takes care of them. I had braces as a kid and didn't take care of mine and I ended up with so many problems. Ugh!

P.S. I need to find one that takes our insurance too...as i drive an hour to the dentist now and I don't want to do that for the ortho.

I've been delaying the ortho for my son with Asperger's too. He has sensory issues with his mouth and I worry about how he will handle having them put on and then how he will deal with them once they are in. He is now asking for them so I hope this will help when we move forward with them. I'm hoping to get him in this summer. It's nice that you found a nice ortho that will work with your kids. I hope I am able to find one with a lot of patience too.

Just to let you know that the orthodontic ordeal is over and wasn't so bad, after all. I did dose him up with Aleve and Benadryl an hour beforehand. That took the edge off. He was pretty anxious about it, but he toughed it out. I did get him a squeezable toy to occupy his hands, a bit like a stress ball. That seemed to really help him get through the more painful bits of fitting the bands.Now for the hard part, making sure he cleans his teeth thoroughly!Kylie in CA.> >> > My 13 y.o. gets braces on next Tuesday.
