Wow!!!! Sounds like things are going good with you and ! When are you

doing all of 's procedures? Glad you got the reimbursement on the KKI

trip. LOL ....stooge card is in the mail! LOL

Gail :-)

<< Just thought I'd pop in and drop a few lines to update you all. Had my

first

round of chemo last Friday...didn't really feel any effects until the

following Monday....thought I had the flu! Felt nauseated, but never threw

up, thanks to all the med's I'm on. This will be do-able. I have met many

wonderful people I wouldn't have met otherwise (didn't we all, when we

became

" special " parents??)

Some good news: I got a check for my medical travel reimbursement. The

state paid me for all THREE round trip tickets when we went to KKI in April!

I couldn't believe it.....they even told me they would pay for just the

child

and one parent, plus what they pay is what they would pay for a round trip

ticket, which is considerably cheaper....I can't believe they paid me to the

penny.

A therapist is coming out next week to fit for the new stroller

Medicaid

also approved, so things are looking up. I haven't returned to work yet,

still mulling over when we are going to do 's surgeries for his dental

work, biopsy, and t & a operation. The doc's are just waiting for my call to

decide.

School's going well for everyone, 's doing pretty good, still a little

hyper, we added Tenex to his med regimen, along with the Risperdal and

Trileptal. We noticed that when we upped the Risperdal, started having

facial tic's so we lowered it and added some Tenex. He made a

milestone...he

now can come home and actually recall what he had for lunch and what they

did

in school! He never was able to do that! Yea, !!!

I want to thank everyone who sent me cards, prayers, good wishes and

thoughts. It was very much appreciated. Gail, you are a hoot with your

" homemade " Stooges cards! loved them too!

Take care all and please continue the prayers for me,

Love,

Don't buy one now, either. Just go by measurements and how your clothes

feel. Don't get hung up on numbers like many of us (me, included) do.

Your body should naturally find the weight it feels best at. It may be a bit

Ouch! I would get something like a friction burn if I wore stockings and a

>What should be the target areas for measuring?

Some people just do the 3 basics - bust, waist and hips.

Others (like the weight loss ads) go all out with bust, upper arm, lower

arm, calf & upper thigh, mid-thigh, lower thigh, upper and lower hip, even

ankles, and then in a month or so when they take *new* measurements they can

write " I lost over 8 inches in one month! " and it's sometimes a quarter inch

in in most places.

Hey, it all adds up! *Any* loss is a good one, in my book! :)

Unlike you, , I have not been under any operation (yet!),, I am

thinking about going and getting another opinion, this time from a

knee speciallist, someone who perhaps should know a little more about

the condition...sadly though, like you I have to wait a long time on

the NHS and I am staff (well sort of anyway, I work in a

hospital!)...However, this being the country it is you have the right

to a second opinion, whether it is NHS or private...the choice is

yours really, do you want to wait 2 yrs to see your own speciallist,

perhaps a longer time to see another speciallist or do you want to go

private (if you have the money!) where you may get seen a lot

earlier, (but not necessarily better!)...you have to way up what you

think is best...a bit of advice, if you go private, make sure the

hospital/clinic (whereever they practice!) AND the Speciallist are

reputable in their line of work...check them out using the net, other

patients you may know of...your GP may be able to help with that, he

or she should know the reputation of every private practice within

their area (I should think!)...sorry can't give any practical

advice...

Hi and Nigel

I too am in the UK and have had to endure the NHS for the past 2

years or so...

Really I've ended up paying privately for most of my care...

orthopeadic surgeons, consultant rheumatologists, sports injury

specialists, podiatrists, blood tests, isotope bone scan,

physiotherapy, various pain killing devices (TENS etc), braces,

vitamins, supplements, acupuncture, homeopathy etc etc... Must have

cost me a fortune. The alternative was to go on waiting lists... and

I've done plenty of that too!! (OS's, pain specialist, PT'ists etc).

So I've kind of mixed-and-matched with both NHS and private care.

I also played the NHS... at one point I managed to get onto TWO

waiting lists to see two different NHS OS's at the same time!! Well

I went along with this just to get the two opinions.

I would advise you to pay privately for at least one consultation

with a good knee specialist. This way you get expert advice

quickly. NOTE! If the guy you get to see privately in this way is

also working for the NHS, then there's a chance that he may put you

on his NHS list after he's seen you... if you're cheeky and ask him

to. This is what one OS did for me!! I saw him privately within two

weeks and then he said it would be a waste of money to keep paying

him when he could put me on his NHS list! This way I jumped the

queue. Wasn't planned - just happened!

But the CRITICAL thing is to make sure you see a guy who has an

excellent reputation and is a KNEE SPECIALIST. Ask you're GP to

recommend someone to you. My GP recommended an OS to me. In fact

the OS he recommended was treating his daughter for knee problems.

But the waiting list to see him on the NHS was 9 MONTHS!

If you live near Windsor I can give you the OS's name. He's well

respected, and I trust him. In fact I payed to see him a few times

and he could find nothing much wrong with me and said I'd make a full

recovery. To put my mind at rest he arranged an isotope bone scan

(which I payed for) but would have taken ages (if ever) on the NHS.

It's taken a long time, but I am in fact making a good recovery now.

I also suspect he only charged me half his normal rate for whatever

reason.

So my advice is to pay to see someone good and also wotk the NHS. I

got MRI's on the NHS and then talked a nice nurse into letting me

have copies of the MRI's for £25. Then I hawked these copies round

every specialist I saw. Work the system.....!

Good luck

Hi Joe and Nigel, and Thanks!

I have now decided to go private for my first consultation with a new

specialist, and I have an appointment for next Thursday. I am going

to be kept on the waiting list to see the old one aswel though, so I

have 2 yrs to find some joy with someone new, and if not go back to

him. I am hoping though that once I see this one private I can go on

his nhs list or the costs are going to cripple me!

I am just wondering how to approach this though... do I tell him that

I was unhappy with the treatment recieved so far (which is a mixture

of nhs and private)or do I just go in explaining the last set of

treatments have not mentioning any problems? I do believe that the

diagnosis is correct, but the operation has made my knee worse, and

have had very few tests or anything done before the knee was opened

up. Any advice?

Thanks

Hi

Been very busy recently and just read your post....

Regarding approaching your OS and asking to go on his NHS list... I

don't know what approach to suggest! In my case it just happened.

But perhaps you could tell your OS MY STORY... ie you know this guy

who had a similar knee problem, paid to see someone privately because

was in pain and couldn't wait for the NHS etc, and then the OS kindly

put the guy on his NHS list... and then ask your OS " is that

normal? " ... and could this sort of happen for you too hint... hint...

The one thing I will mention however is that after I went on this

OS's NHS list I only really saw him once or twice again. After that

I was fobbed off with seeing his registrar, who clearly was not as

experienced as the OS himself. This is because the OS is " too busy "

to see everyone in person and therefore a lot of his NHS appointments

are handled by his registrar instead.

I'm told by a nurse friend that this is normal practice because the

NHS is so over-stretched.

But really the important thing for you is to get that private

appointment and get a good professional opinion. I do hope you chose

a good specialist, because there is a HUGE difference between good,

indifferent and useless.....

You didn't say where in the country you are? Because if you're

anywhere near Berkshire (once again) my guy is generally well-

respected and he's supposed to be a good surgeon too.

Actually, I just re-read your original post and I noticed you said

you have to wait 2 years to see your original consultant!!! Did you

see him originally on the NHS and have you seen him within the past 2

years? because if so, as far as I know you are still on his NHS list

(we stay on NHS lists for 2 years after the last appointment) and can

just phone for a new appointment, which you would then get quickly as

priority. Anyway whatever, don't under any circumstances take

yourself off his waiting list. Get as many opinions as possible!

Finally, full disclosure is always the best policy with any

consultant as far as I'm concerned. Tell him your entire history so

he can make a better informed diagnosis.

Hope you read this before your appointment today!

Hi all, my name is Melody, not a newbie here, but probably this lists biggest lurker..lol...I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself and put my 2 cents in..lol I'm 49, self employed, HCV+ for 32 yrs, viral load of >850,000,normal LFT's for over 2yrs,pretty much asymptomatic except for moderate to extreme fatigue. I just wanted to say I really have enjoyed this list and all the useful info I have been able to take away from it. Karolyn, I think your protocol is giving you awesome results, and I look forward to your new viral load results! Satya, I read every day of your focus and determination to whip this dragons butt, you go girl! As for me, I can happily tell you I'm on Jay's Superblend, Bioprotein Plus, multivite w/o iron,EsterC,vit E,and Symbiotic's Colostrum, and I feel better now than I have in 10-15 yrs. I've got a long way to go, I still need lots of work on my diet..lol..I confess to being unable to stop the sweets and red meat totally, but I'm getting there, one step at a time. Am I planning on getting to the level of undetectable,or "cured"? Probably not,but you never know! Have I improved my "quality" of life? ABSOLUTELY! I feel great!

Now as for all the upheaval on this list lately, I think it is sad. My only suggestion is to just ignore and Andy, they will go away sooner or later. I'm not against people who choose to do the Interferon tx, everybody has to make their own choices in life, and I wish all of us no matter what course we choose, success in our goals.

Well this has been kinda fun, I have been on several lists for a couple of years, and this is the first time I have ever posted. Maybe I'll do it again sometime...lol..feel well everyone, and God bless us all!

Hi Melody - Glad to know you! We need some new voices here, so I hope

you keep putting in your 2 cents! We sound like we're of the same

mindset. Well, I just got my Viral Load results this morning, and it

has gone up to 713,000. Other lab work is pretty much normal, as

usual. (also like you). That's up less than 400,000. But - at least

it's down from last April's 7,300,000. Guess I'll just have to work

harder! :>) I know what you mean about the diet. I have a hard time

with carbs, especially chocolate and bread! I am now considering my

options about changing my protocol a bit. Jay's Superblend sounds

terrific, and I'm thinking about revisiting my naturopath for a new

herbal remedy. I took one last year for 2 months and liked the

ingredients her herbalist used. It is so wonderful to be in charge of

my own health! Love & Blessings, Karolyn

Hi Melody, thanks for the encouragement. I love Jay too, he's got things (some of which you mentioned) that I'd like to add to my protocol. I already take his Siliphos Milk Thistle..If I ever go off Dr. Zhang's protocol, I am DEFINITELY going to use the Superblend, it looks AWESOME! I'm really glad you posted, Melody--please do so often--we love to have everyone's input! I feel the same as you do concerning cure and quality of life. I'm going for a cure because if anyone's going to affect one by natural means, it'll be someone dedicated (and obsessed) like me! But as far as quality of life, even if the little bugger persists in sticking around, he'll be hard pressed to get me down--I'll just have to escort him to the back of the bus and let him know not to make trouble! peace and continued good health, Satya

You're doing great, Karolyn. Don't forget the viral load can vary widely even day to day, depending on many factors, mostly stress--emotional OR physical. Keep up the good fight! Blessings, Satya

I took one last year for 2 months and liked the ingredients her herbalist used. It is so wonderful to be in charge of my own health! Hi Melody, Where can I find the Superblend? Is there a web-site?

Thank you so much. Margie.

Hi All!

Ok, so now I changed my profile -- added another one -- and I'm eager

to see if this worked.

Ms. just seemed a bit to formal for BFL, if you know what I mean.

Hi All!

Hi folks,Just wanted to update you all. I am 5 months post-heller and am doingwell. My spasms are gone and I've weaned off the paxil. Suppose thenerves are dead. My swallowing is still about the same withoccasional stuckages relieved by liquids. Life is good post heller!I am back to having a full, active life and am very, very grateful. Idid start to gain weight with the doughnuts and Baskin Robbins icecream, but have tapered off since I realized that yes, it will go downand stay down. Don't have to keep proving it I guess. I am still at135 pounds (about 80 kg) and have to be careful about being overlystressed out. I am maintaining equilibrium--homeostasis as it may besaid.Anyway, hope everyone is having a nice holiday season--I know mychildren sure are! Hi Cindi from PA--how are things????Jo from South Florida--brrrr!!! It's been coooooolllllllldddddd downhere--a chilly 60 degrees Fahrenheit in the a.m. and early eve! Youshould see the winter jackets! Only kidding, it's beautifulactually--grateful for the reprieve from the heat and the hurricanes!Jo :)

hi jill i understand exactly about the dream thing..I just can't believe this is

happening..like you I am new to R A. Welcome back to posting. We will make it

through this.

Faith (california)

-------------- Original message --------------

Ok- I admit- I havent been posting- just reading. Remember me- I am

Jill. A relative newbie to RA and to the group.

Quick recap- found out I had RA back in Nov. I have been having issues

with finding a Rheumy but Praise God- finally found one who will

accept my insurance- and I have an appointment for June 20th. In the

meantime, my doctor has finally put me on Plaquinil-200 mg. She upped

me to 600mg of Celebrex daily ( it is helping and I will take my

chances until they pull it off the market) and still on the 5mg of

prednisone a day. We also added 600mg of Neurontin 3x per day. The

combo seems to be working. I am doing a little better. Physically,

anyway. I have not had to miss a work day- I can make it through the

day and deal with the pain.

Mentally- I am still shaky. I keep waiting for this whole thing to go

away. And its not happening. But I am still waiting. Maybe someday it

will- or I will wake up and it will all be a dream. It happened on

Dallas- it can happen to me, cant it?

Thanks for being here everyone. Even if I dont post much- I am here.

Jill

Hi there, Jill. I know the feeling. Even if I feel " ok "

physically, mentally I am just waiting for it all to just fall

apart. I know it will come, I just don't know when. I hope you

post more and good luck with you appointment. It's just too bad you

have to wait so long....Marina in Ohio-
