It is believed to be the largest verdict ever awarded in a personal injury toxic mold case. Unlike many occasions when toxic mold issues focus on property damage, this case centered on personal physical injury, yielding a larger award. “I think that [this case] really sends the message that if these cases go to a jury, a jury agrees the science is there, the medicine is there, that toxic molds are very harmful to people and cause people to lose their jobs, be hospitalized and significantly affect their lives,†attorney reportedly said. The site at issue was Sacramento’s Partridge Pointe Apartments. The Mazza family claimed to become seriously ill after residing there for approximately half a year. The family moved, leaving their belongings behind. The plaintiffs complained of paying roughly $125,000 in medical bills. The family sought reimbursement for their belongings and moving expenses. The apartment complex reportedly refused such reimbursement or an out-of-court settlement. It is unclear whether the case will be appealed. Clean Air America Expects to Christen Anthrax Spore Trap Soon Clean Air America Inc. (CAA), a manufacturer of air purification systems, has announced it intends to release the Anthrax Spore Trap. The system is expected to sell for about $1,200, CAA Vice President Antoinette Brahm told IEBline. The new product captures the bacterium at the source and prevents the spores from escaping into the air to be inhaled by a person or people in the area where a contaminated letter is opened. Letters can be opened inside of the tabletop unit. The units are designed so that negative pressure and a high-efficiency filter virtually eliminate the risk of becoming infected by inhaling the spores, according to CAA. The product will contain a certified HEPA filter and have at least a 99.997% collection efficiency, Brahm said. Call Brahm at (706) 291-1700, ext. 303. Illinois Firm Introduces Allergen Alert for Residential Use Glenwood, IL-based Health Home Air (HHA) has unveiled Allergen Alert, which allows homeowners to detect and identify the levels of the eight most common indoor allergens, including four types of molds, which could be affecting the air quality in their homes.
