Guest guest
BA is done by Certified Behaviorists. An FBA is the same thing. I have only thought about this in terms of school settings but I suppose it could be done in other settings too. We did ask the school for an FBA because the principal of the school viewed my daughters slow transitions as defiant and I did think a behaviorist would see it differently and she did. She made lots of suggestions to help my daughter. Until we got an IEP though the principal continued to punish our daughter even with a FBA suggestions. I would also ask for a FBA if there were lots of behavior issues in the school that I didn't understand the causes of (such as if there was a lot of fights etc). Most of my daughter's behaviors I totally understand the triggers for, the FBA was to get it documented for the school and to have good interventions not punishments. I hope this helps. Guest guest
, The functional behavior analysis (FBA) would be the tool to identify triggers and present recommendations to address both the triggers and the behaviors. Most of the time, a behavior intervention plan (BIP) would follow. This is a contractual instruction guide that is designed for the school environment. The most effective FBAs are conducted by board certified behavior analysts (BCBA). This is the type of professional that you are looking for. Please keep in mind that many states do not recognize the BCBA as a required designation for conducting FBAs. Hence, depending on the state and district, they most likely conduct their own FBA. Let them and then advocate for an independent FBA with a BCBA. Make sure though that all of the environments are taking into account, school, home, and community. Also, that the BCBA interviews you, the child, one primary teacher, and a primary community representative with the most experience of your child and the behaviors.
