Yes, you can cause digestive problems by doing this. The best course of action

is to start off with one small serving per day and watching the reaction.

Increase as you see adjustments until your child is back to eating gluten all

the time. This can take a month if you do it carefully.

I'm wondering about the effects of eating gluten again? Is this going to start

digestive problems? Any thoughts?

We didn't do the diet (gluten free casein free diet) to fix any digestive problems but my daughter was allergic to dairy and wheat from birth so those had already been eliminated when she was diagnosed with pdd nos at 2. Going gluten free casein free was just a little stricter and no big deal. I have " tested " her with gluten and dairy... I think it was over a year ago. I gave her gluten at night and in the morning and sent her off to her special preschool. Got a phone call about how my daughter is acting not like herself and must be sick but the thermometer says she isn't, etc, etc. I told them not to worry that I had just given her some gluten to see if she still needed the diet. I needed them as my objective observers. The answer was obvious.

Thanks for the input. I have a mild to moderate aspie. We are giving the

gluten free diet a try, but if we don't see any benefit after 5 or 6 months, we

will go back to a regular diet. I worry that it will be hard on my little guy's

stomach if that happens. We shall see...

I was off gluten and dairy before I found out I was AS,because celiac and

allergic to dairy. My son has adverse reaction to dairy too. He didn't inherit

celiac gene. I was encouraged to try gluten free for him, but I gave up as is

hard diet and he is such a picky eater that I worry about him getting enough

nutrition. Gluten doesn't make him vomit etc like casein does (but he is fine

with A2 casein). One diet doesn't necessarily fit all.

I've read that the body doesn't manufacture enzymes it doesn't need, so if have

been off a food for a long time, it is best to go slowly to allow the body to

get used to it again. Happens in vegetarians going back on meat apparently.
