I'm very scared! > Hi Tammi, Don't be scared...PA is a " life " sentence, not a death sentence. It's an unfortunate fact that most of us who've been diagnosed with PA have been down a long path to get to the diagnosis. Our stories are so similar in how many doctors we saw, tests we had, pain we went through over years to finally get a definitive diagnosis. I've approached this disease in that I have to experiment with different combinations of physicians, meds, creams, p.t., exercise, rest, diet, heat/ice, education, etc., to where I can be somewhat comfortable in my own body again. Stress for me is such a big factor, but controlling it on a day-to-day basis is a real challenge (especially with a 14 year old drama princess stepdaughter). As compassionate as family, friends and co-workers can be, they have no idea what it's like to live in this body, dealing with pain, stiffness and fatigue day after day after day. It can be very discouraging and depressing when you realize there's no panacea for PA. I'm so grateful to S and our moderators for providing us with this forum where we can share information and commiserate. It's wonderful to be able to talk with others who really understand what we're feeling. Please continue to share your concerns, fears and frustrations, venting is good for stress relief warm blessings, jane __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Hi Tammi You've come to the right place. Most of us started out in very similar circumstances. It *is* very scary, but these days very treatable. Were you diagnosed by a rheumatologist? I assume you've been started on some medications... Are you getting any relief? Sometimes it can take a few months to get the right medication combination, but you should be able to get things to a manageable level if not better. Best wishes -
Guest guest
I have suspected my son has asperger's since he was two years old. Now at age six and a half we have finally obtained a diagnosis. I know some people are devastated by the diagnosis, but I am just so happy we can finally put a name on it and get some help. I had my crying moments, but that was years ago. Now I just want to move on and help him. Problem is even though we have a diagnosis, there is little specialized help in our area. I plan to join a support group and he is seeing a developmental psychologist for behavioral problems. We homeschool so there is no help from the school district. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I am looking into group therapy but that is two hours drive. He is receiving ot for sensory issues. I am not sure what other options we might have? Guest guest
If your son has any special needs like speech delay or sensory seeking the school will still have to provide you those services even if you homeschool. we homeschool but go to speech at the school for 30 minutes and go home. I personally think for my child I teach her better than they ever could but I am not a therapist so for those kinds of things we reach out. Guest guest
Thanks! He has no speech delays and our school district offers nothing for sensory issues. We our going to OT privately an hour away once a week and she has given us things to work on at home. I am open to any help from the school district but ours is rather lacking which is why we decided to homeschool to start with. > > From: jm.smoldt <jm.smoldt@...> > Subject: ( ) Finally a diagnosis > > Date: Thursday, January 14, 2010, 8:24 AM > > > > > > > > Â > > > > > > > > > > I have suspected my son has asperger's since he was two years old.
