Guest guest
NOOOOOOO! Keep the social skills! Any speech he needs should be in addition to that. > > > My son currently has on his IEP that he gets counseling in the a > group for the purpose of social skills once a week... Guest guest
Do you have to eliminate any thing? I would not get rid of services. AS kids need social skill training daily if they can get it. It is hard to know what each of the different people would be doing with you son. I would argue that AS kids only learn social skills and social behavior thru repetition and that your son needs as much as he can get. Guest guest
, Keep all you can get for him! Maybe I missed an earlier thread, how old is your son? The social skills groups are so important. You maynot see a gain right away, but over time, the counselor can facilitate strategies to help with immediate situations. And never let the speech go, they can always work on organizational strategies, as well as the aud process. Guest guest
yes- i think i'm going to see if we can keep all these social skills group.. I tend to worry about missing out on academics - but at least for the rest of this school year - we should see how it goes. I'm applying to special ed schools which do a better job at integrating the social skills component and if that happens, I'll be able to remove something from the IEP. Thanks! > > , Keep all you can get for him! Maybe I missed an earlier thread, how old is your son? The social skills groups are so important. You maynot see a gain right away, but over time, the counselor can facilitate strategies to help with immediate situations. And never let the speech go, they can always work on organizational strategies, as well as the aud process. > Jillian > > > > ________________________________ > From: <rachelfran@...> > > Sent: Sat, March 13, 2010 8:32:07 AM > Subject: ( ) social skills in school > >  > > My son currently has on his IEP that he gets counseling in the a group for the purpose of social skills once a week... Guest guest
I would add the speech services and not delete the group.
