Guest guest
I think that decision to seperate her from certain people by if they ate hot lunch or brought their own lunch just set her up to be outcast by the other students!! I would think the students would feel rejected by her or like they are not good enough to sit next to her, because i bet other 6 year olds have really no firm grasp of what she goes through if she is around the smell of hot lunch food!! I would be nervous to make that decision for fear of putting a big target on her back to be bullied , or having other kids feel sad because they know they cant sit next to her ..... because they eat hot lunch , but they dont really fully understand why!! But then again i dont really know what the alternative would be either ...... i guess the only other option would be for the child to NOT eat his/her lunch in the cafeteria period! But i guess you still run into the problem of where she would eat , i wouldnt want my child eating alone! And you still would be seperating her from her classmates! I guess its a tough call to make! But how did that decision go??Am i wrong on my assumptions?? Did the other kids understand it, and were they ok with it? Or did it just complicate things even more? I hope im wrong and that it didnt make things worse for her,...My son has a lot of sensory issues with foods and smells , so i often wonder how he will do with this next year at school during lunch time! So im interested in hearing how making those changes for your daughter in the cafeteria went for her and her classmates???MeaghanFrom: md l <dontblinkhs@...> Sent: Sat, February 12, 2011 1:35:38 PMSubject: Re: ( ) What does your 6 year old hate about school? Guest guest
Meaghan, I think eventually it might have caused some issues like what you are saying.. But we had discussed letting her eat somewhere else, which the principal did not think was a good idea because she wanted her to try to be with her peers at all times. It is hard for me to think about what the other kids might think of it because I am also on the spectrum.. But that is what the teacher and principal thought was best. I pushed to try to get her to eat in another room, but they wouldn't allow that without proof of severe allergies (she only has intolerances, which we had faxed to them, but it wasn't enough for a separate table/room). She is homeschooling now so it doesn't really matter anymore (for us).. But you did bring up some interesting points. Guest guest
Right... man i hope i dont have to go through that , because it may be a lose lose situation .. touch call!! Well glad she is doing better and hapy with being home schooled? What kind of homeschooling are you doing , is it you doing it yourself .... or is it like a online home schooling funded by your school district?MeaghanFrom: md l <dontblinkhs@...>To: Sent: Sun, February 13, 2011 12:57:48 PMSubject: Re: ( ) to: MISTY, What does your 6 year old hate about school?
