Hi Jacki and welcome to the group. Glad to have you! Hopefully we can help you

along the way.

My son is now 14 and things have gotten better but it takes time and SOOOO much

patience. But the hardest part is seeing them struggle or hurt. So every time I

am at my wits end I tell myself it is nothing compared to what my son must be

going through. That is just one of my coping strategies.

Yeah, I know what you mean. The problem I have though is that Isaac is

so pragmatic and stoic that he doesn't seem to feel the stress.

Unlike his mother. sigh

I used to think that too of my son at about the same age. When he was 10 we were driving in the car and there was a commercial on the radio about anxiety. The lady was talking about the symptoms and was saying to call a number if you were feeling this way. Well my AS son who was in the back seat hyperfocusing on his DS suddenly blurted out, "that's what I feel, that's what I have!" He was so excited. I asked "you have what?". He said, "what that lady just said, anxiety. Mom, what is anxiety?"

I was floored! Up until that point he never could explain how he was feeling inside. I just assumed he was too stoic and indifferent that things didn't bother him. Well that was an eye opener. I took him to the doctor and he was put on Zoloft. Up until then he use to have bad boughts of vomitting and diahrea at least every other week and no one could figure out what was causing it. Well once he was put on the Zoloft it stopped shortly there after. It was the anxiety that was causing him all these gastrointestinal problems.

So my son basically diagnosed his own anxiety at 10. Since then he has become more intune with his feelings and has suffered from depression. It's like being caught between a rock and a hard place. You want them to "feel" more so they can understand the world they live in and be understood, yet the more they "feel" the more they realize how different they are. It's very difficult as a parent to see. At least for me. It breaks my heart sometimes. ne> My son is now 14 and things have gotten better but it takes time and> SOOOO much patience. I understand the heartbreak. My son just started Prozac so far so good. But

gee, it makes sense now why he had been vomiting and the other symptoms you

mentioned in your post. Big Hug to ya, ur not alone. Get all support you can

get to help you make the best decison for your son. Counselors, Drs etc. Keep

the people who are on your side the rest discard. We have gone through a few

counselors and Drs to find the right ones that actually take interest in my

childs welfare.
