Hi all,

This reminds me of something my son, his wife, and two kids did just last month. They went to Legoland. They flew from Portland, Or. to L.A., Cal. to visit Disneyland, and stayed in the area a week, and loved Legoland the best. The whole town was made out of Legos. The trip really wore them out though, and they said they would never go for so long again, and do as much as they did.

So, your son is 16!!How did it go through the first adolescence years? Is your son attending public school?I really enjoy being here, because it feels like family. Everyone is so willing to give tips and are so open about what they are going through. The lego ''thing'' with my son is not really about building good, neat stuff, but rather build an imaginary world, which he can controls!!!

HI LOLO

Thanks for responding. I know where Ontario, CAN is, as I grew up in Detroit area, and right across the bridge from Windsor and we went to CAN all the time.

Also, yes, NATE my NT 11 year old, builds and reads instructions and does the Lego models and is very good. He got money for his birthday and just bought a 40$ Lego Airplane set and he did it all alone and did a great job.

, my 16 year old AS son, he was and still does, make what he wants, and NEVER would sit and build a model of what someone has already designed and to recreate that would be unlike him. He wants to build his own thing and like your son, his own little world!

Teen years have been ok. They have improved and things have gotten better for him over all.

Would you believe that Lego is right here in Connecticut? We keep calling to see if they are going to open for "tours" they keep telling us it is in the works. They do go out to the malls from time to time with gazillions of legos. They let the children build what ever they want and then keep them> This is for them to get ideas for new products. It is usually way too busy for us to go though. Too crowded and noisy.

************HI Carolyn

I would love to go there and so would my sons.

A few years ago a gal on a list I was on, was from near Legoland and told me all about it.

I have still never been out west except to all over AZ( my dad lives there you may recall) and Utah. I would love , LOVE to get to CALIF, but we are middle west, and so it is a bit far and I just never seem to get there. We go to FL often though and headed there this summer. A friend I grew up with just got remarried on May 28th in Fremont, near San , as she lives there now. Many of my high school friends from Michigan live in CALIF now.

I hope to go one day. Thanks for reminding me about that place. Hey, would a person be able to do enough in just two days instead of a whole week? Can you ask your son for me. THanks.

Hi ,

I sure hope you get out west some day. Actually I have never been out east myself, the furthest I have ever been was once we went to Champagne, Ill. to pick up my husband's brother who was going to college there, we just got him and turned around and came back home. And my folks and my three brothers and I went a couple of times all the way to Minnesota, where my folks were both born.

But that is it.

As to Legoland, I don't think it matters how long you stay there. It is like anything, they always have toooooooo much to do in one day, but then you don't have to do it all either. Maybe get a brochure beforehand and decide what things you want to do, and to not do, and figure out how long each one takes.... I know at Disneyland some of the things we went to took a long time I thought, it was like going to a full length movie, and when you got out you still had a hundred other things to do. We definitely needed more time than one day, but we did what we did anyway, in only one.

If you are involved, invite them to an Autism Society meeting to watch the kids play - the problem may be radically mixed skill levels.

I actually went to Lego Land in Denmark. It was amazing.

I was spending 2 weeks in Germany and Denmark as a kid and spent my 13th birthday at Lego Land!! It's truely mind blowing what they can construct out of Lego's!!

Jane are you talking about the store LEGOS? We went to one in the Mall of America a few times, about one hour from my inlaws who live in WIS now. This is in St /Minn., MN. Anyway, my sons love it, and they have permanent sculptures that are there which are made of Legos and they have tons on hand for kids to build as well.

Legoland though, that Carolyn mentioned is a place like an amusement park in CALIF. I have heard of it before. I believe it is an amusement park theme, with rides and attractions, right Carolyn???

LOL THAT MAKES SENSE!

My son is never finished building road pavers, road graders, steam rollers, he is asking for moonsand construction set for his birthday, I'm sure this is gonna be a mistake, aspie son with sand in the house and ocd dad at the ready with the hoover! Joy.

This is funny! We spent $100 on Duplos with our first Aspie and have added some every year or two in the 2 decades since (now for the younger ones). Not a day goes by without Duplos (we just added some Legos this year--they are too easy to lose) spread over the living room floor.

I recently read that the Lego company specifically hires Aspies to test their new designs. Makes sense--we're their best customers!

Our moonsand "conveniently" got lost when we moved a while ago!

Just barely got my son on the bus this morning because of Lego's. He woke up ornery anyway but then he came across some instructions for a lego train in the closet and he was NOT going to go to school. He was going to build this train all day. Thankfully, somehow I got him on the bus though. Somedays I have no idea how I get it done!

My son will be thrilled to hear that. His goal in life is to be a lego engineer

and a Nintendo game tester! He says he will make a lot of money since he will

have 2 jobs. ;)
